Will this kill my memory?

Thread Starter
I've got my FSB running overclocked at 264Mhz with a 10x multiplier to give a CPU speed of 2640Mhz and my RAM is running at 1:1 i.e. the RAM is also running at 264Mhz. It's done 12 hours of Prime 95 Ortho on both cores and an hour of memtest #5, so it's pretty stable. My RAM is two sticks of 1Gb Crucial DDR2 PC4200 which runs at 266Mhz with the standard DRAM.

I'm thinking of doing two things:

1. Overclocking my CPU (if it will take it when I get my new HSF) by going up on the FSB. This will raise the speed of the memory beyond what it's supposed to run at, and it's cheaper RAM rather than fancy OCing RAM, so will this damage it? Or can you only damage RAM by bumping the voltage too high?

2. I want to OC my RAM by trying to reduce the timings. Current settings (taken from CPU-Z):

FSB/DRAM: CPU/10
CAS: 4.0
RAS to CAS delay: 5
RAS precharge: 4
Tras: 12
Trc: 17
Command rate: 2T

Should I even bother to try lowering any of these values, or do you think I'm not going to be able to get any noticeable real world memory performance gain by doing so?

Any ideas greatly appreciated

Cheers
Simon

Don't know what the safe voltage on that RAM is, hang in there till you find out. No sence in pushing it and killing it.
For DDR2 those timings are great.

Thanks Duke - how do I find out the max voltages for my RAM. It wasn't on the packaging I bought it with and I can't find it on the Crucial website

PC-4200 or DDR2-533 probably won't overclock a lot. I could be wrong being I have no idea what ICs were used.
Try a google of the exct part # and see what you can dig up.
