spilled milk on keyboard.... help!

Thread Starter
So I spilled a little bit of milk on the b/v/ space bar keys which on my keyboard (corsair k90 vengeance) is the spot where there's a slot that opens up to the motherboard.... sigh.... and I tried to slide the milk off the keyboard instead of keeping it level, and I think most of it got down onto the motherboard. So now none of the keys work, but the leds still work. Does anyone know how I could possibly fix this keyboard?? It was not cheap and I am a poor student and cannot afford another keyboard :/ thanks for your help.

Chances are that you need to open it up and give it a good cleaning. What keyboard is it?

I'm glad you didn't cry over it.

Crying over spilled milk on your keyboard is SUCH a first world problem.

Geekhack used to have a Ripster guide on fixing keyboards after a spill. Ask them to restore it, In the meantime there is my somewhat broken guide here:

So I cleaned the board up a bit with some rubbing alcohol, and dusted off the keyboard inside/out, and the keys are now working, but are putting out 2-3 letters and totally different letters than I am pressing. I guess I'm screwed?

Maybe you should watch carefully where you put the keys. Sounds like you put the wrong keys perhaps? Also i hope it's a lesson learned to never HAVE drinks on your desk. I KNOW from experience. I had tea 3 years ago and spilled on my Razer mouse mat and mechanical keyboard. Had to get a new one.

From that day forward i forbid food and drinks near my DESK. I only put it on the coaster on my shelf under the tower so it's nowhere near the keys and the desk biggrin.gif

Not necessarily. Give it more time to dry before tossing the keyboard.

Is this your "Bake The keyboard in the Sun" theory?

Well it's sitting in my closet now, I guess I'll try it again in a week... for now it's back to my Logitech G15.. Definitely miss the mechanical keys/ blue backlit LED's.
