[TR] 3,000 Guild Wars 2 gamers banned for flogging stolen loot - Page 12

Sounds like Diablo 3 all over again. >_> Figures... Yet another caste of people who ruin the in game economy just to make money. I mean... when your generic GOOD item at a high level is 500K and the GOOD high level items are around 50 million, you have a problem. No one can afford that and no one wants to spend the time to grind to get that amount of money. >_> It's not fun.

Diablo 3 is suffering from this, or something similar to this.

How is simply buying an item from a vendor, with nothing extra or special required, defrauding the game?

The issue that people were banned for is that in one region of the game items were way cheaper, so people went to that region and purchase the items from the vendor. There weren't any wild shenanigans going on, people weren't circumventing any systems, they were literally going up to a vendor and buying an item. A.Net made a mistake, period, and instead of admitting to it and fixing it, they took it out on the players. Players that did nothing other than purchase items from a vendor for the listed price.

I can tell you right now, had I been in this situation, I would charge back the purchase on my credit card and get my money back. I would then sit back and laugh as I watch A.Net try to explain to my bank why they banned me after I purchased their product for buying an item from their in-game vendor, for the price listed by the vendor.

If this is the attitude A.Net is taking already, I can see this game going the same way as SWTOR, right down the toilet.

Not true my friend had a 72 hour ban for buying items for all of his characters. He didnt sell them or transmute any of them he got a couple for each of his characters.

More on topic, does no one read? This isn't an exploit. Unless exploit means making a purchase. I cant believe how many people in this thread are crying about people buying items from a vendor at a price set by Anet. That is like going to the store and getting something on sale to then be arrested for shop lifting, because the sale was a mistake.

So you haven't read any material on how hyperinflation or major inflation hurts economies even virtual ones? How that inflation ends up hurting all of the players?

As for everyone else saying its not an exploit. Um, it is an exploit by the very definition.

Exploit - To make use of selfishly or unethically

In gaming terms its typically to use an ERROR in the code to gain an unfair advantage. By its very definition when Arena Net said they were using an exploit they admitted in gamer lingo that it's an error on their part and unethical on the part of the players.

I was not affected by these bans, but the punishment does not fix the crime. I could see myself buying these weapons to use, and be it ignorance of it being an 'exploit', I should be banned. Punishing others for your mistakes doesn't sit well with me.

Only someone extremely incompetent would see "hmm this item has sick stats.. Why is it only 2 gold?" Oh well it must be a part of the game to have an elite weapon that a level 1 character can afford.

Its not as clear cut as that. Sure some warning bells should have gone off for more experienced players but consider this. Firs of the karma was a new type of currency in a triple currency system. Do you really expect everyone to be on the up and up of how much x amount of karma is worth in gold. Second A.net was offering some extra perks for preorder players like the hero band. Some might have thought that it was a nice easter egg type of extra bonus. Another example was how A.net was giving out free GW2 hats in the gem store. By your logic nobody should have picked thous up because surely noting in the gemshop should be free right? It must be a bug right? I bet some people will now not pick up the hat in fear that it is an other "exploit".

Do you understand how traditional definitions can differ from vernacular? The dictionary definition clearly isn't how the word is being used in context.

Actually the people who were buying lots of these and selling them were by definition exploiting the economy for their own profit. This should be a lesson for everyone. They are giving all the people time outs 72 hours. Get a grip and if you want to play the game appeal your account. If you don't want to play because they are forcing people to be fair and not take undo advantage of the game then get your money back and go away so we don't have to listen to the wine cause its sour. At least no one has started an oh no draconian DRM you can only play this online game while online connected to their servers I wantz my money back..... I can haz Cheeze now/?

If this is the attitude A.Net is taking already, I can see this game going the same way as SWTOR, right down the toilet.

People with this entitled mentality, disgust me.

You paid for a product, agreed with their rules and then broke those rules. You are subject to discipline as is everyone else that broke that rule...And charging back? Really? What are you, 5?

SWTOR didn't go down the toilet, actually...EA is already profiting on the RUMOR the game is going FTP...It's a proven concept that in 2012 FTP > PTP...

Some of you people, genuinely, need some ethical/moral realigning.
