[TR] 3,000 Guild Wars 2 gamers banned for flogging stolen loot - Page 4

Serve them right taking adv of a bug to make money. I can see them all flock to mmorpg.com and moan about them getting banned for no reason.

A lot of selfish exploiters in this thread.

I'm of the opinion that exploiting should net bans. The harsher the better. Oh well, maby next time it'll be permabans.
I was in complete agreement with them on this one. I saw the exploit and id not buy a single weapon. I just submitted a bug report and moved on, I knew there would be repercussions for the idiots sitting there and buying hundreds of them. Plus they are letting them get a free pass now if they get rid of all the profit they gained from the exploit.

Good move thumb.gif

Absolutely logical.

Is that what I said? No. I said some people were banned just for buying a couple to use. There were extreme cases that people bought dozens to resell.

You can buy upwards of a dozen items all for one character. All weapons are viable, and have different skill sets. Since you can trade, you could buy them for alts too. So even if someone did buy a lot, that doesn't mean they were reselling them and "exploiting" the system. They banned people who bought a couple items off of vendors for their own use, nothing about that is exploiting the system. The vendor prices were wrong, not their fault.

I bought a couple for myself, and was not banned. I didn't even know the prices were wrong at the time, until I saw them skyrocket the next day. My RL friend however was banned just for buying one, and he kept it for his own use. Not everyone that was banned exploited, they messed up and it's probably why they changed it to a 72 hour ban because some of the bans were legit players.

This is very lenient, especially since those items could be salvaged for high end items as well as everything else. People who bought more than 100 were most likely not buying for themselves. :/

What I'm most annoyed about is those who got to keep the items. I didn't buy any bugged items and now I'm screwed over somewhat by the fact that a lot of people get high end armor for cheap, while I'm out in the cold.

Clearly the people saying it was harsh didnt read the article, these would probably be the same people complaining that the ingame economy is ruined because they didnt ban the exploiters.

ANet know what they are doing, in GW1 people were using exploits which turned the economy upside down, because they didnt take action against the players they were forced to completely reset the economy, as you can imagine, this caused quite a bit of chaos and upset a lot of gamers.

This sickens me how Arena Net has done this, at least give them 72 hour bans and roll back their characters, but coning them out of their £50 or $60 is horrendous, most of them were probably new players and didn't know what they were doing and they permanently take away game access and their accounts they paid so much for? I know I'd be demanding a refund!
I didn't even know what karma was in this game so thankfully I didn't get caught up and buy one, I spent so much time in World vs World and sleeping while I'm in the queue, they need to fix problems in their game before they go on banning sprees.

BS they only Prema ban the ones that new what they were doing. The ones that bought 40+ weapons, And there was reports of guys that had bought 100+ Yes if you bought the weapon for you character you only got 72 hour ban. If they don't keep the perma bans on the ones that did the 40+ then that's retarded.

It's not like this is new for A.net. They took a really harsh stance in GW1 with cheating.

^ This.

I don't play, so I can't make too harsh of comments towards ANet, but what was this "exploit"? Was it simply they priced their items wrong and people with enough money could buy them? Is there some stat that lowers vendor prices like the "Barter" stat in Fallout?

I am all for banning, permanently, people who go out of their way to find and exploit bugs or other flaws in the system. But if this was a situation where just by speaking to the vendor you could purchase items at a reduced price, from what they should be, that is not the fault of the player. That is more of a mistake on the dev's side and they are punishing the players for being entrepreneurial, as they were given the chance to do so.

If I am waltzing around Wondervillecamelpool World and I see a vendor has a really awesome item for 8 copper, I am going to buy the snot out of it and give it to my friends or sell it if the price goes up later. Now if I found out that by putting a bucket on that vendors head, spinning in circles 12 times, eating a Grobblerage Fruit in front of him, and then jumping on his tent caused the price to drop, and did this over and over, I would fully expect a ban hammer to come crashing into my face.

Clearly a lot of you haven't played an mmo if you think this is too harsh. I think its awesome. The people buying them and not knowing where they came from is one thing, but the people selling them knew exactly what they were getting themselves into so good on NCsoft.
