I am currently looking into my sluggish internet here lately. I am looking at the rate that speedtest gave me at 1mbs for download speed and i usually sit at about 100kbs. My internet speed on my contract is 16mbs so I should be getting much quicker download times. Reviewing my modem this is what it says. If I am reading it correctly the receiving it what its receiving from my desktop correct and the sending is what its sending to my computer as far as the rates go. If that's true then it's like my computer is being limited by something as the actual rate and the attainable rate is much different. Just looking for some advice from experts because I'm not a big networking guru I've read the threads above and didn't get much information really that pertains to me.

Receive = download (Rx) - data flows TO your desktop
Send = upload (Tx) - data flows FROM your desktop.
You likely meant that in your post - but there was ambiguity with the way it was written

Your contract says a 16Mbit/s connection? How far away are you from the exchange?

Do you only have one computer in the house? Are you connected directly to the modem or going through a router? If so, what type of router are you using? Cat 5b cable? If you have a 2nd computer, is it getting the same speeds?

That is a pretty poor DSLAM sync speed.
What kind of router/modem are you using? If it isn't ADSL2 you will not have a chance of breaking 8 mbit as it is.
I'd make sure your phone cord isn't bundled up or next to hostile EMI (power cords, etc). I used a looped up cord as a test for amusement when had DSL and the sync speed dropped from 5 mbit to ~256kbit.
How dated is the phone wiring in your house?
Usually the modem and DSLAM will negotiate a rate that is fast enough not to produce errors on the line.
It may be worth calling your provider to dispatch a tech if improvement of any of these factors do not yield a result.

FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 is the modem/router. I dont see it declaring itself as ADSL2 but even 8mbit would be a step up from what I am stuck with no
. Im renting this house but was told it was all wired up Jan 2011. I am going to go into their office on Tuesday and tell them the issue and if they can't offer someone to come check it out Ill just get a new ISP.

Your modem is ADSL2+ ready up to 16Mbit/s only. Is it possible you may have seen that the modem supports speeds up to 16Mbit/s and confused it with what you signed up for (sorry I have to ask!

In either case you are getting a super dodgy speed from the DSLAM. Is there a filter on the phone line? Any monitored alarm systems or other telephony devices on the same line that might be causing any noise? (although your signal to noise ratio looks and attenuation looks OK...)
As a reference 20dB-28dB (higher is better) is excellent for SNR and <20dB-30dB (lower is better) is excellent for line attenuation.

I dont know about a filter I didn't get much information on the lines in the house. (My landlord speaks German so its hard to talk about things) I am going to have a technician come out and check out the lines and if there is anything I can change in the wires for the better I will because these speeds aren't cutting it.
