Mysterious Keyboard Issue

Thread Starter
Since my install of W8, I've been having issues with the keyboard suddenly not being recognized at the login screen. The mouse isn't recognized either, so I can't mouse over anything either, so I have to shut down via the power button.

The first time, the issue was resolved using a system restore. The second time, I reset the CMOS and that did it.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I've installed the latest W7 drivers in compatibility mode for this thing to work. Could it be that I haven't installed any logitech drivers for my mouse that could be causing this issue?

In my BIOS, I don't have an option of checking to see if pnp is enabled. But the keyboard and mouse work up until W8 loads to the welcome/login screen.

when it happend to me at startup screen, I just plugged out the mouse & keyboard usb ports and reinserted them to the very top ports (the ones next to the PS2 port), 5 seconds later, I can type my password again.

It has to do with motherboard USB drivers I think....

Okay, I tried it, just reset the CMOS again too, this time it's not working, even when plugged into the USB ports right next to the PS/2 port.

Have you tried a different mouse/keyboard? it would be better if you have generic ones that dont need any software just to isolate the problem.

I have tried that as well. I have a spare set of generic Dell hardware specifically for troubleshooting. I even tried a PS/2 mouse in the PS/2 port and nothing.

I did another system restore and now things are working again. *sigh*

So it can't be your BIOS settings. Maybe its the compatibility mode causing the issue or W8 motherbaord Chipset/USB drivers....Try the drivers update 1st.

Then try to find w8 drivers for mouse/keyboard from Logitech

There are no W8 drivers for the Logitech devices I'm using, but I know plenty of folks who haven't had any issues running the same stuff I have on their W8 setups. I'm sure it's the Mobo drivers. I'm updating to the latest Asus USB drivers.

After a week of not happening, it happened again. System restore and it's fine. Ironically, I haven't installed anything since the last restore point, so I'm baffled.

At any rate, I removed classic shell, since that might be the cause.
