System won't POST with anything aside from minimum plugged in...

I have upgraded the mobo, cpu and ssd (boot) in an old system. Specs are as follows:
New:
CPU :i5 3570k
H/S: Zalman CNPS9500 AT
Mobo: ASUS P8Z77-V LE
SSD: Samsung 830 120GB
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM 8GB

Old:
PSU: Coolermaster SIlentPro 1000W
Case: Coolermaster HAF 932
DVD RW: ASUS DRW-24B1ST
GPU: GTX 580 1.5GB

The problem I'm having is, the system posts fine when breadboaring the mobo w/ CPU and RAM only, but as soon as I try to plug in the DVD R/W or SSD the CPU fan will spin for a second and then everything shuts down.

I haven't changed the DVD R/W or HDD orientation/PSU connections from the old system and they operated fine at that time.

I'd love some ideas as I'm dying to get this thing running. Thanks guys!

Do you have other SATA cables to try? I have surprisingly seen bad ones that won't allow a system to boot. Will it boot with just the DVD drive or just the SSD? Will it POST with the GPU plugged in but not the DVD/SDD?

I'll try another Sata cable, but these ones were working before. It won't boot with either the DVD or ssd plugged in (alone or together).

I haven't tried the gpu yet, that was going to be the next step. Should I try it now?

Thanks!

Might was well try the GPU. That should tell you if the mobo is gonna have serious problems. So it will POST (show stuff on the screen), right? Can you get to the BIOS? Do a mouse and/or keyboard work?

Yep, I get to BIOS and keyboard works. I'll try the suggestions after dinner and report back.

try to plug in the power for the ssd/dvd drive but not the sata cables. see if they get power this way.

If they power on most likely sata cables or mobo issue.

I think the White SATA connections are only for Boot drives? So, don't plug the DVDRW into the 6GBs SATA port. Worth a try..

I doubt connectors won't work for certain things. My MSI boards have always been interchangeable no matter what. That does raise the suggestion of trying each SATA port on the board one at a time to see if it is a specific port or not.

I thought the same thing. Until I used a Z68 Fatality Mobo.. Took me a half hour to realize why the board wouldn't recognize the DVD RW drive. Had it plugged into Boot only SATA ports.. lol

Well, it may have been a Z77 mobo.. I really don't remember. Have built a lot of dual boot Z68/Z77 Win 7 - Hack 10.7/10.8 pc's in the past four months..
