Thread Starter
Looking for a basic replacement for the onboard sound in my R3E, as it appears to of died

Do i really need any more than a "Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX" as I only use cheap headphones and cheap speakers. I am not an audiophile by a long distance.

Cheers

PS. Super tight budget, In Australia and would buy from www.pccasegear.com or www.umart.com.au

I would recommend the ASUS Xonar DG.

What sort of benefit is the ASUS over the creative?

Is it less taxing on the cpu?

Sevada88 is right: Xonar DG Super cheap (like 24 dollars here) and has a headphone amp built in. Entry/Tight Budget, that's the way to go.

This. No need to ask questions. Cheaper, has headphone amp, very good output signal-noise ratio. The only thing missing is 192KHz sound support, but that's negligible. Also, the front panel audio option is very handy.

Actually you can get this for cheaper (most likely) and it's actually a miles better card than the Xonar DG:

Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1 PCI

Ok not miles, but a nice bit better (other than no headphone amp which he won't need anyways).
