ATI and Nvidia?

Thread Starter
Hey guys I've got n interesting situation

I've got 2 monitors, my main one being a 21.5" viewsonic, and the other being a 17" benq

The viewsonc is hooked up to my 6850 oc cyclone

while the benq is hooked up to a 256MB GeForce 7300 GS (Gigabyte)

now a couple of things
1. how is this possible as 1 is nvidia 1 is amd
2. would it be better to have both connected to the 6850 and just remove the nvidia card

Its possible because they are not working in conjuction. Yea, it would perform better if they were hooked up to one card.

It makes no difference.. windows 7 handles multiple monitors pretty well.. and windows 8 handles multiple monitors even better.

It works flawless. I have one gtx 470 and 7950 running 4 monitors. (3 on the 7950)

Just install the drivers and go. I just put my 7950 in first slot ( to make sure it would the primary)

1. it is possible to get an nvidia and an amd card on the same pc via the amd physX hack.

2. yes just remove the 7300GS. if it was at least a 9800gt id say try the physX hack but the 7300gs is too weak. not worth the issues you might encounter with such a weak card

Yeah think i'll leave it as it is, I only use my main monitor for gaming so I guess the card has more headroom for running games if it only has to deal with 1 monitor

it makes zero difference if it has 1 or 2 monitors on a single card. I've been with 2-3 monitor setups for the past few years. the only problem you can have though is the main card wouldn't downclock to 2d clocks if you have it on one card hence slightly higher power consumption at idle

Not really an issue when you're running two cards instead since the other card will more than negate any power saving!

I believe it works better on AMD cards. They tend to have 3 power states. Idle, 2D and 3D. When you have more than one screen it sits in 2D mode, so it only heats up a little more. With one monitor it sits on Idle clocks.
