I can't imagine what a new Killzone would look like on PS4. COD3 (graphics-wise) was drool.gif when 360 first came out.

Seeing how long this generation of consoles lasted including the Wii, it is apparent that consoles even when they are released will most likely not need to be able to compete with the power of the computers of that present. Right now games graphically just have to look as good as what is popular with the day and that is Call of Duty. Call of Duty is not a nice looking game yet it sells extremely well. They can release a console similar in power to a computer from a couple years ago and it would be a huge leap and that would suffice with the masses that would buy it including myself.

Seeing what they can do with current consoles lead me to believe that they don't need to be on the cutting edge of technological power. What is more important is that they are competitive with their console counterparts and now as well be competent media machines. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, cable content and music and other media services in my opinion are just as important to their long term success as the games. As long as the consoles are future thinking enough to support maybe something like 4k res videos, then it can probably last another 7 or so years like the current consoles.

I don't think the highest quality graphics matter anymore. Games just have to look good enough as compared to what is out like Call of Duty. The bar will be raised with the next consoles and then there will be the sweet spot for graphics. I personally would really like to see animations get a lot better. Tech demos always show these really nice fluid movements of the characters but the games always look nice but never achieve that real nice fluid motion. Whatever they turn out I'm sure though will be more than capable of being a significant improvement over what we see today. It would probably never be able to please the primarily pc gaming niche but it wouldn't surprise me if it took us into the next decade until the next cycle of consoles or whatever their successor may be.

Judging from the rumours concerning "next-gen" console specs if they come out in Q3 next year they'll already be outdated low end hardware rolleyes.gif

The problem is that extra power doesn't just let you make everything look pretty, it is a prerequisite for physics, dynamically destructable environments or interfaces like occulus.

When games are stuck on decade old gear, and engines are built so everything will scale to that level, none of this will ever be widely adopted.

another h8r.

Of course the next-gen consoles will be outdated but there is nothing we can do. I'd like to see the games that are produced with the same level pc hardware for that cheap and with the same level of playing ie fps, settings etc, you can't compare it consoles maybe behind in terms of what is the best and what is out right now but don't forget that these are gaming for the masses, easy, fun, simple, oh did I mention easy already? I prove my point.

You can't compare pc to console as much as the tech heads want to believe it, what ever spec they are using on the next gen consoles couldn't be rivaled on pc (built and all) because you can't make stuff that cheap.

Go on do try it.

Basically if a reasonably priced mainstream computer, likely mITX, with an Ivy Bridge I3 or I5, and a low power "good" GPU and BluRay gets popular it might force consuls to compete. If the games optimized for the computer "outshown" the console versions. maybe.

I hope you are saying that having spent extensive time playing it. There is a nice list of things that make it superior to F3, from a graphical standpoint as well. Are you speaking only to the realism of driving dynamics? Sure it would have been nice if it was on the next gen system, but I'm cool with getting F5 on that.

Core 2 Quads are dated back in 2007 with a pair of 8800GTX. thats only 1-2yrs after the console release. They still can max everything today.

Back then, XBOX360 and PS3 are launching console with High-end desktop computer specs. 7800 base GPU on PS3.

I dont think PS4 will get any AMD 7000/8000 high end GPUs by the time it launch.

if next gen console have low spec as what the rumor said.

an Intel socket 2011 6 core platform + a pair of 7970 is more than enough to max everything all those console port games through out the entire console life cycle.

*I already putting my plans to get Haswell-E/Broadwell-E + 5yrs warranty mobo + a pair of GPUs/triple SLI and cover this whole console cycle. biggrin.gif
