Okay tried D1 didnt make a difference.

Yes i have connected a speaker and no bios beeps.

Q-Code is 69 "System Agent DXE Initialization is started" according to the manual. It just sits at this code and never gets any further.

Tomorrow I am taking everything but my mobo to my buddies place and putting i into his system to make sure the memory, cpu, gpu and psu are all still in working order. if this doesnt solve it i will go purchase memory off of the supported memory list and if that doesnt fix it another RMA woot!

DXE error usually means CPU, but both version of your cpu are supported by 0906, in addition does it hang on the cpu led or mem led, do they cycle between the 2 then stop at the mem led?

I have a feeling the bios is totally bricked after your second attempt with the cap conversion.
Once you went to cap it's pretty much over if you try to go back to rom.
I've replicated this scenario many times at work.

The initial symptom was either the mem not being liked by the board or the board was doa.
If you're in the US let me know, I might be able to work something out for you.

And during trouble shooting, please try and use the Intel OEM cooler, alot of AM coolers put too much stress on the skt and prevent a post.

Thanks Grunion,

When booting it flips back and forth then stays on the DRAM LED.

I read somewhere to hold down the memOK! button and when it reboots it starts flashing because it is doing a failsafe test. it does this once then stays solid red.

I will order compatible memory to see if this make a difference. I have never had a board that wouldnt even post/beep with incompatible memory... This is my first new rig in 4 years so i guess times have changed.

I am in Canada but thanks for the offer.

This is why I suspect the board is dead, no beeps at all, no matter if components are installed or not.
If your speaker is functional and the board is not dead, with no mem installed you should get the corresponding beeps.

Many are having trouble with the CAP converter, especially getting a new system to POST. You should pull the CMOS battery and reset CMOS, download and reinstall the original BIOS with the ROM extension, and flash it with an updated ROM file if needed. Don't do the CAP converter until you have the system to POST, load Windows, and stability. This is when you should do the CAP conversion as it will boot twice into Windows and then stabilize the BIOS for updating CAP extension BIOS. The problems is your board was most likely released before the CAP extension was released.

If he botched a BIOS update, he can't just reflash it downwards....if I remember right anyways, that'd be amazing though.

So a resolution has been found.

Called ASUS and they said pull everything out of the board (CPU, Memory ect ect).

Pull CMOS battery. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes.

Put only 1 memory stick in to D1 DIMM.
Reinstall CPU and video card

Keep powering on until it boots to black screen wait 30-45 seconds each time. Eventually I got it to boot with 1 of my sticks of memory (3rd one) and it finishes the BIOS upgrade.

ASUS says they have no idea why but sometimes it just doesnt like certain sticks of memory even if it is on the supported memory list.

Another flaw in this board's BIOS.

They said they were hoping to fix it soon.

So now CPU is recognized and memory is installed and working.

Actually sending this message from the machine now.

Thanks for all of your help as mysterious as this whole damn thing was....
