Post-Deployment WCed Tech Station Build - Live Free or Die!

Hey everyone!

A little back story: I just returned from a 6 month deployment to Afghanistan and decided to treat myself to a little something nice and get my rig up to speed. Essentially it is a whole new build but, since I retained the same Mobo and PSU and RAM, I'm going to call it an upgrade. I decided to name it Live Free or Die in honor of the State of New Hampshire (home of tax free everything!)

I decided to go from a case build to tech stations a while back because I always seem to be swapping things out here and there. I don't like the dust aspect too much but being open air it is also a bit easier to clean IMO. Another draw back is tech stations really lack in looks where they make up in ease of use, this was especially the case with my old bland XSPC Tech bench. In my research I found this Lian Li Tech bench (70D I beleive) which was not only functionable but also had great looks. It could use little more space but I think I managed to make due with its poor cable management and mod it to my liking. I still have the supplemental fan bracket on order to push a little extra air into these GPUs and over the Mobo so I can post more pics once that comes in the mail and is installed.

I'm already having some reservations about keeping the X58 around but that is a different beast and will cost a lot my money than I plan on spending in the immediate future. Anyways I'd like to get everyone's opinions as to what I could do to improve my build from here on out and just everyone's two cents so I can go from here. This is my first real attempt with decent cable management so hopefully everyone finds that up to spec as well wink.gif Hopefully everyone likes it, it took a few sleepless night and a little hack and slash modding here and there but I think is came out well and is my favorite build yet!

My original rig before the upgrade was:

  • i7 920 w/ Stock Cooler :/
  • 12gb Gskill 2000mhz Dominator RAM DDR3
  • 40gb Intel SSD (Boot)
  • 3x GTX 470
  • 3x 1TB HDD (1 WD Green, 2 Samsung F3)
  • Coolermaster Gold Plus 1200W PSU
  • 1x 23'' VG236H ASUS (3D)
  • XSPX Tech Station
  • $20 Wireless Logitech Mouse / Keyboard Combo
  • LG Blu-Ray Burner
  • Free Mouse Pad

Now: my rig following the upgrades:
  • i7 970 w/ XSPC Raystrom all on 480mm Swiftech MCR XP w/ Push/Pull XSPC Fans and 2x Phyoba Rad Grills
  • Swiftech D5 Vario w/ EK Pump Top (Rev 2?)
  • 12gb Gskill 2000mhz Dominator RAM DDR3
  • 120GB Sandisk Extreme SSD (Boot)
  • 40gb Intel SSD (Battlefield 3) wink.gif
  • 1x WD Green 1TB HDD for Storage
  • 2x Samsung F3 1TB in a Stripped Volume
  • 3x MSI GTX 680 4GB ACII
  • Lamptron FB Fan Controller
  • Coolermaster Gold Plus 1200W PSU
  • 3x 23'' VG236H ASUS in 3D Surround
  • LG Blu-Ray Burner
  • Lian Li Tech Station
  • Corsair Vengreance M60 Mouse
  • Logitech G510 Keyboard
  • Steel Series Mousepad

For the future:
  • Upgrade to 2011 Socket (Hex Core and AsusRampage IV?)
  • Get another GTX 680
  • FC Waterblocks for GTX 680s - Will Any Fit?
  • Another 128GB SanDisk Extreme SSD for RAID Boot
  • Seperate Loop for GPUs (Same Setup)
  • 4GB RAM Sticks 2000mhz + (Corsair or GSkill)

Feel free to shoot my any questions for specifics, I got a little lazy posting exact models and I may have left some stuff out as well.
Thanks!
