Irrelevant, the 8350 has a higher base clockspeed and that's how they should be compared. They should be tested as they're sold; overclocking only complicates things that's why there aren't 12 charts showing each processor overclocked more and more.

Don't know about you but when I look at performance charts stock clocks are completely irrelevant to me. I'm not buying a fully unlocked CPU to run at 3.4GHz (or even 4GHz). That's just the speed you want to promote because it gives the illusion of AMD keeping up with Intel via much higher stock clock speeds...

I gotta ask, why is there such a huge discussion over single core performance every time an FX 8 core CPU gets benched? Do you people seriously buy 8 core CPUs mostly to play video games and just run benchmarks? rolleyes.gif

How about someone test an FX 8150 or 8350 with several programs running simultaneously - you know, multi tasking - it's something many of us do and the reason we buy 4+ core CPUs.

I just find the conversation pointless overall. If you are just playing video games why buy more than a quad core?

I'd imagine 90% of the people on OCN build their rigs with the purpose of playing games. That's why.

Including you most likely.

Right but most (90+%) games do most of the 'work' on one single thread with odds and ends assigned to other ones.

This is why single-threaded performance will be important for games for a long time. They're simply not the type of program you can make totally parallel.

If you put them both at say, 5GHz as max OC then it's just a test of IPC x cores.

IMO what needs to be done is 2 things:

1. Both at their stock clocks
2. Overclock and underclock and do whatever needs doing until both CPUs have equal IPS x cores or IPC x frequency x cores (same thing)
