Best of all, I don't have some trying to talk on his cell phone right in front of me during the whole movie.
To me the price of a BluRay is CHEAP compared to the cost of just a single trip to the cinema. That was all I was trying to relate to the other poster.

Now BR's are cheap I keep wanting to grab a Blu-Ray drive... but they're like £50 and I dunno if I can justify it. The little lad has a PS3 but getting it off him is like taking Thor's Hammer from him!

And nah, northern England dude. If someone is talking in the cinema they get a slap round the head and then the stewards ask them to leave (stewards don't do the slapping!) seen it happen so many times!

I agree, though, some films are worth the money in the cinema, but we can hardly justify the cost. Maybe when I've graduated and got a decent job biggrin.gif

Oh, that reminds me.

At the '47 Knucklehead cinema, I have the largest weapons in the theater, not some psycho dress up like "The Joker".

Yes and no. They only "risked millions" because A-list actors are obscenely overpaid. Also, in my opinion, $4 might be too much. I suppose the production costs (even in an ideal world where top actors and actresses aren't so overpaid) might justify a $4/movie cost, but there are much better options in terms of hours of entertainment per dollar. Put it at $5 for ownership of the movie and say $2 for a rental, and I'd be cool with that.

As opposed to A-list athletes?

Most A-list actors only make one movie every year, maybe one every other year. Compare that to a $70 million a year baseball player and $50 a seat ticket prices, and IMO, the biggest bunch of overpaid people aren't actors, they are athletes.

It's just that ticket scalpers can't easily do what fat tubs like Kim "Dotcom" Schmitz did. If they could, you would bet that MLB and the NFL would be all over their tails like RIAA is for movies and music.

And there is a whole lot more than just actors and post production that goes into movies. Those 14-21 seat theaters just don't build themselves and then run for free. They cost upwards of $200 million a pop, and god knows how much a month to operate. And then there is TV, Radio, Newspaper, and Internet advertising. That can easily cost just as much as the entire amount spend to make the movie itself.

No one is overpaid in a "free market" system, except maybe government workers. (their competition is limited) People are paid what the market will bare or whatever the employer is willing to pay.

...and I used to disagree with Rubers, but I was wrong; You cannot call Copyright infringment "theft"...easily at least according to the US Supreme Court and they do lay out a good reason why.

Rubers!!!! I stand corrected, from a previous argument and as it pertains to this one.....legally.

OT: I still find piracy to be morally repugnant and I'm glad to see such operations shut down.

Hmmm subjects like this always get strong responses from BOTH sides. Both of them are right in there own way....... And wrong also LMAO! do i encourage piracy NOT AT all have i downloaded stuff i "shouldn't have" sure. I look at it like this if i'm downloading your stuff (whatever it is) it's because im "interested" BUT not enough to commit my monies then one of a few things happens:

1. I use the said "item" and find it complete rubbish and remove it from my computer vow NEVER to purchase at any price.

2. It gets picked at and poked around then i decide it is not worth the full retail price SO buy it on sale (whenever i see it).

3. I enjoy the product very much and feel the "creator" deserves to be supported and purchase the item when i see it AT A PRICE I FEEL IT IS WORTH.

4. Product is so amazing i buy at full retail at any cost.

So which of the four do i do the most?? In order of most done to rarely done it goes:

2.1.3.4

So what does that say?? To me it says the directors/game designers/singers/artists need to make the products cheaper better more entertaining and value for money. We have a PS3 so watch BluRays and now that some titles are available for less than £10 we are snapping them up whenever we see some when we go shopping and have spare cash for stuff. Games to be honest i'm not really "feeling" any of the titles out now so don't even DOWNLOAD THEM!! (what does that say if i don't even go to the bother for NOTHING!!). Music!? most of the rubbish that passes it's self off as such isn't worth the space on my hard drive and i have a large collection of "free to download" music mixes that satisfy (besides YouTube covers the rest LOL!).

If i download your "thing" and don't pay for it it's because i don't think it was WORTH what you wanted for it make it cheaper OR better. Easy really!

Thanx.

I also think it's not fair for devs especially the small studios but when a game such as cod gets to the point where you pay 90$ for a game and then still have to pay another 90-150$ just for add-ons i'm happy that there are people who distribute it for free.

A case in point would be the new Avengers movie. I downloaded a rubbish cam copy from "somewhere" watched it and REALLY enjoyed the movie. and deleted the copy straight after. Now there are 720p/1080p BluRay rips floating around and because i feel the movie DESERVES the purchase price i will purchase it on BluRay as soon as our finances allow. For whatever the price is at the time.

If i had not downloaded the copy (Marvel Superheroes movies are "ok" i've watched most of them at some point and don't own ANY of them) i doubt i would of bought it AT ALL now because i watched a "free" copy and thought that all of them rolled up into one film was great they can TAKE MY MONEY!!

Thanx.

I bought a Blu-Ray drive for my main rig, cause I run it on my 42in 1080p television. Was very disapointed when I found there is virtually no codec support for Blu-Ray playback on free platforms. Had to spend more on the software to play the Blu-Rays than I did on the drive. I didn't even make my money back when I sold my stand alone player. mad.gif
