I think 250,000 dollars seems a little high for this....sure prison makes sesne, maybe 2-5 years depending on the amount of movies or not allow them to have interent at their homes or something like that....but the fine is a bit much...
As for the piracy thing....I can see why people do it. Sometimes there are movies out there that are just not worth it....I understand there are places that rent movies such as Red Box or Amazon or iTunes but not everybody is going to want to fork up the few dollars to rent it just to see if they enjoy it then go out and buy it for another 20 dollars. I personally watch the trailers, read reviews and then if it looks interesting I go see it...and sometimes you get excited for a movie and then waste the time and money to see it all to be disappointed (Star Wars Episode 1,2,3 anyone?). I can see where people want to skip that and go right to the piracy of it. I dont agree with it, but i also dont agree with hearing that Hollywood is "suffering" because of piracy....thats an excuse. Hollywood isnt suffering...im sorry you spend 3895681561295165 dollars on a movie that turns out to be garbage..thats not our fault, that would be the writeres, directors and people involved in it.
A good example of this would be The Last Airbender...I at 27 years old will admit that I enjoyed the cartoon alot...great story and characters but when I saw that movie in theaters It was the biggest waste of time in my life...all hype....I wish I could have gotten my money back for it but thats the risk you take. Same thing with buying a CD and only liking 2 songs on it while the other 11 are garbage...it happens.
All in all I dont agree with piracy but I also dont agree with what people say about the entertainment industry being hurt by this.....If you take the entire worlds population and were able to figure out how many of those people pirate verse how many of those people pay for their digital media, the pirates wouldnt even make a dent in the over all whole...its just an excuse for the entertainment world to cry because they only made 50 million dollars on a movie instead of 65....sorry guess you will have to make a better movie next time or come up with an original movie plot rather then rehash something thats already been done and expect it to make a billion dollars.....Hollywood is terrible and it needs a reality check.
Sorry but thats just my thoughts on it, flame away if I offended anyone else....
