AMD Phenom II 955 temps in HWMonitor

Thread Starter
Hello,

I have been searching Google and OCN and just can't come to an agreement between which temps to go by under HWMonitor. My "Cpu" temperature under HWMonitor is usually lower than my core temperatures by 6-7 degrees. So should I go by the CPU temp which is the temp of the socket? or by the core temps?

Thanks

Edit: After more research I believe the temperature AMD says is max(62c) is by the CPU Temp. The core temps are calculated, and the CPU temp is taken from a sensor from the cap of the CPU.

Go by core temp.

Have a read at these: http://www.overclock.net/t/1128821/amd-temp-information-and-guide

Keep the cores under 55c ..My IHS temp goes up to 62..but my cores never go over 33c headscratch.gif

Hmmm well my CPU temps are showing anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees cooler than my core temps. While running Prime95, core temps were 61c and cpu temp was maxing around 54c.

The CPU temps are not as accurate as the core temps. The cpu temps also take into account ambient temps. Looks like your case cooling is fine. The 955BE is known to run hot. If you have overclocked your chip what cpu cooler are you using? This could be an instance of bad cpu cooler mounting or even a bad application of thermal compound.

Those temps seem high. I was using a 212+ @ 4ghz and 1.5v on my chip before, with like 50c max load temps. I would remount and redo your thermal paste.

I've redone it a couple times now... Ran out of thermal paste rolleyes.gif so I have to wait for more to come in. Is there any special techniques with the 212 Evo for applying thermal paste? Also, my push fan is raised a little from having tall RAM, would this affect temps like this?

Maybe, I should just buy a new air cooler?

Try putting the thermal paste along the copper lines at the base of the heatsink.
