I am baffled at this point....Dreaded 16gb installed, 8 recognized.

I have 4x4gb of the samsung green ddr3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096)

I have tried everything at this point but cannot get my bios and windows to show over 8gb. Installed Memory 8.00gb.

I've searched just about all I can search at this point without any resolve.

So far I have -

CMOS reset.
Tested each stick individually without problems.
Tested each DIMM slot without problems. (except for 1 weird problem when 12gb is installed)
Updated my BIOS to latest.
Re-seated my CPU twice. (each time Bios detected new CPU installed)
Checked for bent pins (none found).
Memtested all sticks.
XMP is enabled. Memory Mapping is enabled.
MSConfig > advanced > maximum memory unchecked.
Resource Monitor shows "physically installed 8192mb"

*DXDiag shows 8192mb physical memory available. Also shows 1gig pagefile in use with 7.7gb page file free even though my pagefile is set to 1024mb.*

What I have NOT DONE is messed with the voltage or frequencies or timing.

Cpu-Z shows 16gb. Memtest shows 4 sticks of 4gb also, all tested errorless.

*Here is the weird thing. I was doing some testing by process of elimination and.....When I have 1 stick in DIMM_A1, 1 stick in DIMM_B1, and 1 stick in DIMM_B2, CPU-Z shows 12gb, occupied in slot #1, slot #2, and slot #3. (Instead of displaying slot #2 empty as it physically is.)

It shows slot #4 being empty although it is occupied by 1 stick in DIMM_B2. When I move the stick from DIMM_B2 over to DIMM_A2, slot #4 in CPU-Z still shows empty as it should although I moved a stick over from B2 to A2.

So moving 1 stick from DIMM_B2 to A2 makes no recognizable difference to CPU-Z. All the while, the BIOS and Windows see only 8gb physically installed memory the whole time.*

What can I do at this point???? I am seriously stumped.

My buddy has the exact same configuration as me except he has a gtx 480 and a seasonic 650 psu but shows 16gb correctly.

My specs:
Asus P8Z68-V LX
i7-2600k
Samsung Low voltage 1600 DDR3 (4x4gb)
Samsung 830 SSD
Samsung HD103SJ F3
Galaxy GTX 560 ti
Corsair AX750
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

Nothing is overclocked, everything is set to stock or AUTO.

I do alot of artwork and heavy editing with premiere, after effects, ps, and leave bridge and corel open mostly so I could really use the extra ram.

Update: Found a section in Bios that correctly sees all 4 sticks, yet still only registers 8gb.

i had this problem. Went through a ton of trial and error trouble shooting. In the end I placed the sticks into my slots in sequential order by serial number. This solved it for me.

Which OS are you using? According to this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx

Windows 7 Home Basic is limited to 8 GB ram.

It seems silly but you are positive that your MOBO supports the extra ram right?

If there are any other issues it's possible the MOBO itself is defective. How/Why does it say a new cpu is detected?

ASUS boards have funny ram slots, the lever only moves on 1 side.

Re-seat the RAM and make sure it is totally in the slot.

Here is how you put it in.

1: Push the stick in and down as far as it goes on the side that the lever does not move.
2: Do the same with the other side, the 1 moving lever should click into place.
3: Repeat for all other sticks.

I've seen this many times with ASUS boards...

EDIT: Test like this, If you can pull the stick out while the moving lever is locked, you know it is not in properly...
