Question about MDPC wire clamps and compatible screws

The learning curve is long on this whole modding thing. biggrin.gif

I figure that whichever clamp diameter I use, all will work with an M3 screw that is 6mm?

How do you guys do it ? Drill a hole in the case, put the screw with a washer and use a lock nut from the other side? I gotta know. biggrin.gif

You can use any kind of screw, as long as it fits through the hole of the clamp. I used m3 x 6mm screws.

You can either use unused motherboard standoff threads or thread your own if you know how to do it.
Personally I prefered the last option: drill some holes into the case and use nuts to secure the screws.

I found m3 x 6mm screws locally, they look exactly the same as MDPC. However, I'm not sure if MDPC is declaring 6mm including the screw cap. From what it seems, it's 6 mm for the screw thread itself.

I gotta know. :\

It doesn't matter at all whether it's a 5,6 or 7mm screw. If you insist, I would measure one for you.

What I have now is 6mm including the screw cap. When I hold it in my hand and put a clamp through, it doesn't seem there'd be enough thread to go through the case + locknut on the other side.

Measure if you can. smile.gif

Alright, got one in front of me now:

7.45mm total length
~5.7mm thread length

The steel of my case is 1mm and the nut on the other side is almost completely filled up with the screw.

How thick is you case?

I'll have to take the caliber tool and test, will report back soon. Thanks a lot. That indeed proves what I was thinking, I will replace the screws with longer ones. Should I get some M3.5/M4 or should M3 fit all clamps?

M3 will definitely be fine for all of Nils' clamps. Tried them from the smallest to the biggest clamp.

I rechecked my M3s, they're fine, total size of 7.56mm. biggrin.gif

I tend to use mostly #6=32 screws on my build. Here for me they are easier to find, and if the length is off I just get longer screws and cut them off with a dremel. Plus they are the only small screws I could find locally with either socket/button heads (small head) or slot/phillips combo heads. I probably got started with them as I have two builds with XSPC radiators and they use the #6-32 screw thread. I also have a tap for those cases where getting a nut behind something isn't feasible.
I realize in other countries it's mostly metric stuff though.
