I would NOT do it, he knows he is getting the better end of the deal. Why would you want to take a huge hit in performance in CPU: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7+920XM+%40+2.00GHz and GPU http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+460M

Short answer: HELL NO.

Because he wants a laptop maybe? laptops are never going to be able to match high end desktops, it's a tradeoff for it's smaller size.

Problem is, this laptop is so hefty that is is a desktop replacement and he'd be much better going with SFF like mini-ITX if space is the reason smile.gif

What's the reason you want to switch over to laptop? If you want to get a replacement for your desktop and have something to game on, i would sell the desktop and buy a laptop that's been recommended for it's good gaming capabilities and by that i mean a laptop that doesn't overheat while under stress for long periods, my old acer would easily hit 100C on the GPU when gaming. rolleyes.gif

If you want to compliment with a laptop, for school and the portability for instance, i would get a small and power saving laptop that can run off of the battery for a long period of time.

A friend of mine had a Alienware m15 that he used for school and just after a couple off weeks he changed to a macbook since the alienware couldn't hold charge long enough for it to be useful. In my eyes and what I've hard, It's the kind of laptop you have when you're tired of drag along a desktop to LAN parties, because it almost always need to be connected to power.

The problem with them Laptop's is that there hot ,heavy, bulky and the battery doesn't last very long. If you want a laptop for mobility this is not the one.

follow your heart bro. that's still a sweet alienware laptop personally id keep the desktop computer but we all have different needs. I think the trade is fair imo

I would defiantly not TRADE your scrapping all the money you spent on that lovely machine.

Especially the I5, 480 and SSD and that gigantic 3TB, that 2500k will last you years to come, so would that GPU that is a monster gaming rig even though there better hardware available now your machine still comes through whether it's third or fourth place, that laptop is just a gigantic downgrade that guy is ripping you off.

If you want a laptop buy a £400-500 one, don't trash your RIG for that, that laptop will become obsolete in 1 year or 2 because of how alien ware does things, they want people's money, your rig wont go obsolete in five years, It'll just be weaker than the competition, even then you can upgrade the processor and the GPU and still keep up with the competitors.

Yes, after owning an Asus N61JQ (i7 720QM) I can say that I'd suggest to not get that laptop or any "gaming laptop" if you want battery life.
It is the type of laptop you'd take to a LAN party.. But why not just take a ITX build, or even better just your regular tower? You'd still have to transport the laptop there rolleyes.gif

It's nowhere near fair! redface.gif
Old i7, 10GB less RAM a GTX460 (power hungry/performance) and the i7 that's in it was an "upgrade" which means more heat, the same with the GPU. The SSD isn't that good either.
I'd keep the desktop personally, you'd really want the person to match a second gen i5/i7 to your i5 2500k and a mid range current GPU such as a 650M/660M and maybe 8GB-16GB RAM.

People also think that because a PC has an SSD it's worth almost double what it actually is. People go to harvey norman and buy computers because "They're fast" when it's just the SSD being driven by some low end i3 for $1600 AUD. rolleyes.gif
