need help picking out a new (android) phone - Page 2

I guess it's a choice between s2 and nexus. I'm still leaning more toward the nexus for a few reasons. Firstly I'm not a big fan of the screen on the s2, the colours look much too saturated. The nexus has a slightly bigger screen, and higher resolution. And I have also read some bad things about it's UI, can't remember what it was though.
I would be happy with either phone however. My biggest concern is the android version because 4.x is meant to be a huge improvement.
I'll steal a s2 and nexus off my friends and compare them in person. I'm sure a lot of it comes down to preference since they are fairly similar in specs from what I can tell.

This, I was playing with a friends phone in graphics. It still looks nice and to be honest I think it might be the theme/OS customised? I dunno.
The galaxy is a really nice phone but I can't tell you much about the nexus as I've never seen one.

I love my Nexus and definitely recommend going that route. Yes you can root it and yes Jellybean is SUPER smooth on this thing. Plus, check out this dev support!

You can change how the colors look in an S2, the phone you may have seen had it set to (under display > screen mode) Dynamic. I had a buddy set it to Movie (3 options - Dynamic, Standard, Movie) and the colors / saturation look life like.

Definitely leaning toward nexus. But if I'm buying it on ebay, do I have to buy the AUS version for it to work in australia? And if so, I can still root and install 4.1 on it can't I? So I guess it doesn't really make much difference which version I get (I think).

ahhh, makes sense.

Like I said before, I'll play around with both and see for myself which I prefer.

I recommend the Galaxy Nexus too, awesome price for the specs, S3 would be better spec wise, but the next best thing is the Galaxy Nexus.

As for the OS on it, the Nexus ships with ICS. I live in India and the Nexus wasn't released here, I bought an unlocked one that imported, and it had an Australian warranty card in the box, so I'm guessing it was imported form Australia.

However the one I got was the Yakjuxw build, which get its updates from Samsung rather than Google. i.e I couldn't get Jelly Bean OTA. You'll want to flash it to Yakju for OTA updates direct from Google.

what? confused.gif ICS was launched natively on the GNexus....I think you're talking about Jelly Bean? Just buy an international version (don't buy it from a carrier)

Besdies.......the Gnexus is so easy to root and flash a custom ROM that you can do whatever you want with it tongue.gif

Great! you're going to love it. Just make sure you flash it before loading any media onto the phone, since flashing clears all memory.
