Best C2D for 1.3k

Well, Here's the deal. My friends got 1300$ burning a hole in his pocket for a new comp. Build me the best computer you can, -overclocking not really his area of expertise- for 1300. Must include the new 8800GTX (or GTS, I dunno the difference yet). Must be future proof. He's lookin to purchase parts tomorrow or saturday, so a quick reply is helpful.

Fry's, BB, Circuit city, - Newegg was going to be the primary source-. Stick to that as much as possible.

$1300 for a C2D build with 8800GTX?? lol Hope he only needs 512MB of RAM and a 40GB HD . Tell him to go with an E6300, get an eVGA 7950GT or something for now, then step up later on when he gets more mother. Because a good motherboard, CPU, some RAM, and a 8800GTX is already over his budget.

First take:
Subtotal: $1,319.42

Note: you'll be paying sales tax in Cali, so I am over budget now ...

Here is a cheaper 8800GTS, and monarch is not in Cali, so no sales tax:

Unless you go with a X6800 or a QX6700 processor, that card will score SH*** (Unless you OC)... Its bottlenecked even on the new processors that are OCed by 1ghz.

Unless hes going to OC the C2D by atleast 1GHZ, the G80 isnt the way to go...

How do you know that? A single 8800GTX performs the same as a high end Crossfire / SLI 7900's. The Core 2 Duo can handle that just fine. The 8800GTS does fit the budget, and will match the E6300 nicely, esp. when you overclock it a bit.

It's possible, feasible, and the CPU will NOT be a bottleneck with a single card. To say you'll need a X6800/QX6700 is nonsense. No one ever said that for high-end Crossfire/SLI 79xx rigs.

Now, if you go SLI with two of those monsters, that's a different story...

yeah... should be beating that. If lucky with the overclock, maybe close to dual core FX performance (or better)
