670 FTW with "The Mod" Questions - Page 3

I reapplied the paste and made sure the screws that hold it are tight (that's what the problem was). Now I'm getting around 47c in BF3. Mucho better. Hope this helps

Ok, so I'm looking to buy an EVGA GTX 670 FTW 2GB and have some questions:

1. Can I mount an Antec 620 to this card

2. If so, how? Zip ties? Bracket?

3. If bracket, where can I get one?

4. The EVGA FTW 670 uses the GTX 680 PCB. Does this make any difference?

5. Can the fan stay on the card in addition to the Antec 620?

6. If not, is another fan necessary? In one of the first few pictures in this thread, it looked like some guy had some sort of white box mounted on his card with a Texas symbol on it.. What was that all about? Was that an aftermarket fan that he used because the stock one couldn't stay on with the 620?

7. Do I need a backplate if I'm using one of these brackets to mount a 620? What's the purpose of a backplate? Just to look cool? Or does it help the card in some way?

I'm just looking for some info about how to properly do this with an EVGA GTX 670 FTW 2GB. I have done this with a GTX 470 but I would like to know if there are any little things I need to know about the 670 FTW.

Also, I would prefer to have some sort of a bracket as an alternative to zip ties, if possible. That would be really nice.

Yes, you can mount the Antec 620. if you look in this post, on the first page, you will see that it fits.

2. If so, how? Zip ties? Bracket?

I would not recommend the zip tie method. For $8 you can get a basic bracket for the 670 PCB. For $15 you can get a mount with a 92 fan bracket (worth it)

3. If bracket, where can I get one?

If you search on OCN for DWood, you will see his artisan page and you will be able to order from there. Have a little patience as he is a family man and does this for a very fair price. Here is a link
http://www.overclock.net/t/1237219/tript-cc-620-920-h50-h70-gpu-brackets-fan-grills-custom-case-badges

4. The EVGA FTW 670 uses the GTX 680 PCB. Does this make any difference?

Not really.

5. Can the fan stay on the card in addition to the Antec 620?

If you cut around the plastic shroud and remounted the fan I guess you could. Otherwise I would say grab the bracket with the 92mm fan mount. Who cares if you can see "EVGA" on the side of your card in your case. With that bracket you can order it with custom cut design in the side (look at the link I sent you)

6. If not, is another fan necessary? In one of the first few pictures in this thread, it looked like some guy had some sort of white box mounted on his card with a Texas symbol on it.. You are going to want to put a fan on it. The VRAM and mosfets get hot. The Texas is a decorative thing you can do with the bracket.

7. Do I need a backplate if I'm using one of these brackets to mount a 620? What's the purpose of a backplate? Just to look cool? Or does it help the card in some way?

The backplate is just a dress up piece that looks cool

Thanks a lot for the detailed answers.

Let's say that I go the fan bracket method (I read up about them on dwood's thread) -- can I do dual SLI with non-stock fans mounted?

The reason I ask is because in some of dwood's pics, it looked like the fan was hanging down pretty low off the card and I didn't know if I could get another 670 in there PLUS my Creatuve X-FI Titanium. For reference, I'm looking at this board, unless someone has a better suggestion.

Just not sure how the PCI-E spacing will work out with two 670 FTWs with the fan brackets.. Low profile fans maybe? Can anyone link me to some fans that they know for sure would work in an SLI setup?

I guess what I'm really asking is, can I make these things still take up two slots even with the fan brackets? I know the hosing from the 620 is an issue, but it can be kind of bent around, right?

Do you mean 4 cards or just SLI? Dual SLI makes me think of a quadruple SLI

The Antec 620 mounted will turn that 2-slot GPU into a 3-slot

Just pick some 92mm that will fit your budget and case colors. They're pretty much the same size

It's for sure a 3 slot card after you put the 620 on it.

Yeah, I meant "dual SLI" as in "two cards total". Sorry about the confusion.

Currently, I have an ASUS P6T-SE and two GTX 470s. The primary card has an Antec 620 and the secondary card as a Scythe Setsugen 2. It fits in two slots.

But you're sure that it would turn into a 3-slot card regardless of if I use the stock fan or not?

you could make it fit as a two slot card.
your tubing would be hella bent and forced to curve outwards.
leaving the tubing at a relaxed and slanted state will take up 3 slots.
source: ive modded 2, two slot cards with the 620.

Just got back to this thread. I don't know how much pressure I would want to put on the 620 tubing. It's not really designed to do this in the first place.
