AMD Phenom II X4 965 Questions

Thread Starter
Would the 965BE be an upgrade from an B55BE? (B55 = unlocked processor from an X2 Dual Core 555BE. It is stock at 3.2GHz)

Links:
965BE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
555BE (mine's unlocked):http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Phenom-II-X2-555-3-2-GHz-Dual-Core-HDZ555WFK2DGM-Processor-/120979453085?pt=CPUs&hash=item1c2aeff49d#ht_500wt_1156
(It's no longer available on Newegg but I gave an eBay link so you could see the specs)

1. Would this processor be adequate enough for my Radeon HD 7770? (No bottlenecks?)
2. Would this processor be a big upgrade from a unlocked 555BE at a 3.2GHz Quadcore?
3. Is it still worth getting by Christmas time? (I plan to get it around that time) How long would it last me? (and there's a chance I will OC)
4. If not, should I wait for a new line of AMD CPUs?

Sorry for the nooby questions, but hopefully someone can help me out.

The stuff you're buying is already one and a half generations old...
I really wouldn't recommend spending that kind of money on this stuff.
If you can, I'd reset. Your mobo is old, ddr2 won't fit with anything but old hardware which you don't want to spend money on anyway.

What's your budget?

I recommend an i3 or an i5 since the i5's come with great combo deals (CPU/MOBO) if you can with a MicroCenter nearby
http://www.microcenter.com/site/stores/st-davids.aspx

Beware if you're getting an i3, you want a motherboard that has a decent enough vrm setup that you can overclock in the future, when you upgrade to an i5 or i7 K series processor.

I'm assuming a lot but I think it's the wisest use of your money.

A 965BE/970 is the highest end CPU your motherboard supports. I would see what kinds of deals you can get on Black Friday in November.

The above poster mentions Piledriver which will be a small bit faster then the Phenom X4 series, but that would require a new mobo, Ram, and CPU. You're better off waiting for Steamroller in Q1 2013 which should be on the level with Sandy Bridge. It will also require the same overhaul but will be a major upgrade in performance. Giving you enough time to save up. I would imagine $400 to be more than enough.

You could always go the i5 2500k route as well, but it also requires a mobo, ram, cpu overhaul, which $400 should be more than enough.
