sorry, but all I see is a $1200 piece of plastic. you can tri-fire 7970s for that price.
its a CASE, it doesn't even contain hardware, just plastic and aluminum like every other case on the market.
it doesn't cost more to manufacture, why should it cost $1000 more than everything else on the market?
hardcore enthusiast cases shouldn't cost any more than $300-$500.

that is the problem right there , this case isnt a "midding platform" . its already modded to the extend that its a full product itself , you cant mod a Huayra like a honda ...

... then again , to reach those "rich" guys ... its going to be a long one for sure ... so prepare your wallets for marketing , its not like the rich people browse XtremeSystems Bit-tech and Overclock.net all day looking for super high priced stuff they can borrow ... all the time , but kinda thinking ... 1200 or even 2k isnt that "rich exclusive"

Sure, but to repeat this case isn't aimed at budget PC users; Like people with a Phenom 1090 and a 560ti. These are for e-peen freaks or those with a 3960x and tri/quad sli. And considering these cases are handmade, I'd say that they do cost a bit more to manufacture. The custom PCB boards, and even just the reputation they have. Not to mention that there will only be 499 made.

Even some LD cases can get this pricey. As it has been mentioned, they probably could have charged a bit more for what they are offering.

Well, people in this thread have actually priced the parts in this case out and it is a lot more than $500.

I see what you did there. You cleverly ignored the words "a lot more than" to bolster your argument. Go price out the actual raw materials and you might be surprised.

Did you know that the turn indicator stalk on a Bugatti Veyron costs over $5000? You may argue that it doesn't make the car go faster, or like HK-47 you may say that it looks plastic and you could get ten 7970s and change from that. But the fact remains that for a top end supercar, only precision engineered cast titanium will do. And it's not the only expensive detail, it's one part of thousands.

Same with the MBII. It's not like other cases, stamped out of thin sheets of steel, folded, riveted, done. There is no compromise to be found.

so I was talking to a guy who made an all aluminum desk pc, and I'm talking a regular sized desk/case that can accommodate 3 monitors. No rivets or anything, everything was welded. I asked him how much it would cost for him to make one for me and it came out to be about 1200$

and honestly are you still gonna say that 1200 is worth for a glorified Silverstone? I love it, it looks fantastic but I doubt it's worth 1200.

Here are some pics of what I'm talking about :

Sorry, How is a desk relevant? the raw material cost would be higher, sure, but the R&D cost, manufacturing cost, and production cost would be much higher. Comparing a desk to a case isn't really a fair comparison.

The cost here isn't coming from the materials. Aluminum is cheap. It's everything else that is expensive.

Not sure why this is even being compared to standard cases. It's a limited quantity piece, it's going to be more expensive despite whether people thing it's worth it or not. Sam thing as the Mars II vs the GTX590.

That being said, you'd be very hard pressed to make a replica of this case, to the same quality, and have it come much lower at it's scale.

Could he have Silverstone produce more and lower the cost? Probably, but that's not really the point.

is it worth it to buy a bugatti veyron? , is it worth it buy a house almost the size of a resort ? is it worth it buying a 90.000$ Franc Villa watch ?

probably not ... but its not up to you to decide what people do with his or her money lol , bare in mind , those items are the best out there , so thats why the huge price they got , so , you are not just buying a car . a house or a watch .. you are buying the best car , the best house and the best watch smile.gif

this case ... is the most luxurious in the market right now , that is all , and they got the right to price it whatever they want because they know that no one offers anything similar to them . and it doesnt matter how much the actual product cost in production , they need a profit too , The guy with the desk will charge you 1200$ in materials ,but how much he is going to charge you to make it ? and can he bring the bill of the materials , because he can tell you a price , but he could have a "deal" with a factory to buy it cheaper , making more money than what you think tongue.gif

In my opinion , it looks good (with 1200 i could had made a case out of titanium and carbon fiber myself and touch sensitive power button and a custom pass-thru power and data for SATA and Power , but for me and not for mass produce it lol)

Again from a site that's all about DIY it would seem that people would understand this case. Your are not paying for the materials, you are not paying Silverstone. You are paying a man to in essence create a custom case. I cannot believe there is no appreciation for craftsmanship here. One of the reasons I need to leave the echo chamber of MR is the utter lack of appreciation for blue collar work Handwerk. Is your carpenter nor more than the sum of the wood? Is your machinist no more than the sum of the metal?
