Looking for a mouse change..

I currently have a RAT 7 and I'm just getting tired of it. I've had it for over a year, and there's always been sensor issues etc. that gets annoying. A lot of the mice I'm looking at look better than the RAT 7 based on specs, although they are a lot cheaper, so I don't really know if I'd be getting an upgrade. As long as I don't get a lower quality mouse, I'm okay.

1. What's your grip style?
Palm. My hand kind of lazily plops itself on top of my RAT7 tongue.gif

2. What's your sensitivity?
Around 4500dpi

3. What's your maximum budget?
Not super strict, but I'd be willing to spend around $70-$80. If there's something that costs more and it's worth it, I'm all ears

4. Do you want additional buttons?
Definitely need the two thumb buttons (internet fwd and back), obviously left and right click and a scroll button. DPI buttons would be a bonus.

5. What games do you play?
CS:GO, Fallout, BF3, Driver: SF, Portal 2. Mostly FPS and racing.

I've been looking at the CMStorm Sentinel Advanced II and the Razer DA. Not sure how those would stack up against eachother or my RAT 7. Suggestions appreciated smile.gif

While I doubt why you need that high DPI for FPS games, the best bet for such high DPI would be laser mouse (one that uses Avago 9500/9800 or PTE) with a hard pad.

RAT 7 uses the PTE sensor. What are the sensor issues that you experienced?

Sentinel Advance II uses Avago 9800, does not have PTE's z-axis issue but has minor acceleration (~5% max) for you to worry about. Sensei / Sensei Raw / G500 / Taipan / M90 are some other Avago 9500/9800 mice that probably fit your needs.

With the RAT on occasion my cursor won't move vertically. I'll have to wiggle the mouse around to get it to work. Issues like that happen almost daily.

I'm leaning towards the Sentinel Advanced II, but I'll look into your other suggestions. Thanks for the input smile.gif

The PTE sensor does that on any uneven surface.

At your sensitivity, I would recommend the Steelseries Sensei; it has a sensor with some acceleration, but it's only noticeable at a low sensitivity.
If you want to try a lower sensitivity, I would go with a Logitech G400.

Its not popular, but I purchased this on sale.

After trying the MX performance mouse, g9x and sidewinder x8.

It just feels solid and its got the most customizable mouse software I've seen. I like that it has an extra button on the top.

That mouse you linked doesn't have a sufficiently sensitive sensor, also it seems like it would have that sensor's default angle snapping (I am assuming that it has the DIP-20 sensor).

Strange.. my 4HD mousepad looks and feels very even frown.gif

I was looking at the Sensei, looks like a beautiful mouse drool.gif Not sure about comfort though with my insanely large hands mad.gif Really want to try out some mice before I buy.

The Sensei is bigger than it looks, I've got large hands and have no problems getting a grip on my Xai (which is exactly the same shape).

You shouldn't require such a high dpi. That's what mouse sensitivity is for. I don't know of any "flawless" tracking mice that have 4500+ dpi. I'd recommend that you use a lower dpi setting with a higher in game sense to achieve the same cm/360 in your games and use one of these mice: Zowie EC1 Evo, Razer Deathadder, Logitech G400.

Watched some videos on the Sensei and it sure does look pretty big.

That's also true. For web browsing etc. I have my RAT at 4500DPI and the Windows sense at default. I'm always finding myself turning the sensitivity down in games anyway.

How does the Zowie EC1 Evo compare to the SS Sensei? And what's the difference between an EC1 and EC2?
