What do you mean by the system is telling you it is running low on memory?
If it is the low virtual memory warning - then you can bump up the page file to alleviate the issue. A better solution is additional RAM or free up physical memory usage.

How much RAM and VRAM are you using? And, have you set a pagefile size or left it to Windows to manage, and, if you have set it what size did you set? For me Windows starts complaining at just under 75% of RAM and less for VRAM. BF3 shouldn't make too large a dent on 8GB though, have you got other stuff running?

Dunno if BF3 has a 64bit binary if it has not it is limited to 4gb ram anyway and if it is not large address aware it is limited to 2gb userspace so i see no way a 32bit game could hog 8gb ram, also a gtx680 has atlast 2gb vram wich should be plenty for highres textures at 1080p.

Do you have pagefile disabled ?

Windows when managed by System allways grabs Ram*1.5 wich in this case would leave you with 20gb virtual pages. Wich in my mind is overkill exept you run superlarge videoediting or other ram intesive apps.

Every game should work fine with 4gb actually windows memory manager is stupid sometimes it likes to page out stuff and keep a large disk buffer in ram instead of keeping the actual data in ram.

I Personally noticed a speedup on my 4GB ram when i set a fixed pagefile with just 1gb ram, but i dont have a ssd i only have hdd so i noticed the pagefile performance hit more.

If you deactivate the pagefile windows complains alot about low ram cause it allways expects it to be there (stupid system) for kernel dumps etc.

So i suggest you go with a fixed size one with 1gb ram, if you need more go at max with as much mb pagefile as you have actual ram there is no point in haveing more virtual ram than physical.
