To return and upgrade or keep my i5..

Thread Starter
Well,

That is pretty much it. I just recently upgraded my rig and I went with the i5 3570k CPU. The rest of my current rig is listed below.

As far as what I do....well....I am a casual gamer, I play Counter strike, WoW, Starcraft 2 (Both on the highest settings). I watch movies on my computer. Use some video rendering software and have somewhat high expectations for game performance even when just casually gaming.

I guess the more concrete question I am trying to ask here is not whether I need the i7 or not with what I currently use my computer for, but, whether it is more efficient, both money and time wise, to upgrade now for $50-75, than to do it later.

Unless you are doing heavily multithreaded things, like lots of video encoding or rendering I would say there is absolutely no reason to get the i7. If you are just doing an occasional rendering or something I don't think the extra cost justifies the upgrade.

Honestly I would overclock that CPU enough so to what your cooler can handle, then "invest" in better GPU like the 670. I had put invest in quotes because enthusiasts like me tend to upgrade their GPU every 1-2 years (yes that seems short but I think that's realistic).

Those games aren't really demanding, so an i7 will be overkill. If you could tell us your budget and what resolution you game on, I think you'll get better suggestions

Completely wasteful to upgrade now or for even a few years based on your description.
