Does anyone else play open world RPG's without the in-game music?

I love the soundtracks of FO3, NV, Oblivion, Morro, Skyrim, etc, but they've always ruined immersion for me. One of the first things I do after a few hours in [Simply to enjoy the epic music] is turn it off and crank up everything else to be fully immersed in the game, if said game has a mod to enhance the atmospheric sounds, I usually get it too.

Just something I thought of while wandering around Skyrim and listening to the rivers. In the distance I heard a "tink, tink, tink" of a hunter randomly mining I couldn't begin to hear with the music playing, or a group of bandits talking who startled me as I walked through the night, they were around the corner aways but I could faintly hear them, not a chance over the music.

Anyone else? tongue.gif

Music is always the first thing I turn off in every game, especially RPGs. I hate it when the dramatic music is louder then the NPC's voices.

Yeah, as much as I enjoy the soundtracks it just kills immersion for me. It's like I have a band following me around, or my character left his iPod on with the Playlist "Epic music" playing.

I used to play an RPG called RuneScape when I was younger and I always played it without music.

Usually, no. I tend to turn off the background music, turn on subtitles, ramp up my own music.

I'll game to any genre of music. DnB -> Electronic -> Folk Metal -> J-Pop -> Death Metal -> Lolicore -> Rock -> Instrumental -> etc .. Any music 'I' want to listen to. xD

Oh god, I can't game to outside music, unless I'm playing Minecraft, ONLY exception.

Haha, we're slightly different there then. For FPS games, especially multiplayer, I need my own background music..
I seem to of developed a slightly bizarre pattern whereby I get spurred on by certain songs, hitting the right mood song at times and I somehow play better, pay more attention to everything.
Yes, I tend to sing along at times but most of the time I actually filter it out until a certain song hits the perfect note and mood, I need that background noise to keep me sharp. happysmiley.gif

RPG games, unless it's a very good soundtrack, I'll just play my own music over it and continue onwards without giving second thought.

Oh, and this background music HAS to be over speakers.. I might use a headset now and again for in-game sounds. But the background noise has to be background and not focused. rolleyes.gif

The ingame music also ruins immersion in a completely different way by immediately switching to a combat soundtrack whenever enemies see you (sometimes way before you have any clue where they are). Sometimes enemies get stuck in the terrain and just endlessly trigger the combat music until you eventually find them and put them out of their misery.

I've had this issue too, it's so immersion breaking, I enjoy the fear that strikes when I suddenly hear running, or someone going "I have you now!"

Eh, FO:NV is probably the ONE game I've found myself leaving it on for more often than not.
