Help: Battlefield 3 unplayable on 64 slot servers - Page 2

You cant run ultra with that most likely..use high like other person said
post #12 of 27
It is certainly a VRAM probolem. No doubt. Leave everything at Ultra except for:

* Textures
* Mesh

The rest should be fine. Also, Post AA from high to medium is almost indistinguishable and will gain you another 2-3 FPS on average, and SSAO is far less taxing than HBAO.

FYI - 1GB is just not enough for the 'Ultra' textures and is exactly why you have stuttering. It's not RAM related.

Thanks, I will try this and see what happens. Does anyone know any gpu monitoring programs so I can view it's usage in screen? I get annoyed having to alt tab it all the time.

EDIT: This new battlelog patch is annoying

I doubt it's a vram problem since other people run the game fine at ultra settings 30/40 fps constant.
Otherwise a motherboard upgrade and 8 gigs of ram was already on my radar however I really don't have the funds to buy windows 7 aswell as the hardware. Can anyone tell me if the windows 7 usb install method would work with the key (official) I have on my computer?

Yes, the disk image from Microsoft's website is available so as long as you have a key it's all good and legal. And will work.

If you're not changing out the CPU I don't think you need to reinstall Windows...

Thankyou, I didn't want to go down the torrent path, especially for an os.

Right I did as you said and well, it wasn't as catastrophic as before but it's still there, every 10/20 seconds. mad.gif On Caspian Border I got 35 fps average and on Damavand, 40 fps. On Metro it's hovering around 50/60.

The game itself is also to blame. The maps are not optimized well especially on large open-area maps. You will find this to be the case even for people who have extremely high end systems.

While perhaps more RAM might make this easier to play by smoothing out the game play, it is likely a constraint outright solely based on the FB2 engine and the maps created for it, as well as client-side hit detection producing noticeable in-game fluctuations on the server actions to keep the 'world' (map) in a smooth transition from one area to another as the game is played.

This is particularly why you will see incredibly low frame rates on full 64 player servers on the large maps (Caspian, etc) without beefy hardware to compensate.

So basically to sum it up for you, BF3 is a giant mess.

I hear you, I even tested Caspian Border on the low preset at 1080p and the performance gain was pathetic. Hopefully DICE will get round to fixing this before Battlefield 4 comes out with maybe even larger maps with more slots, who knows? Thanks anyway for the help, I think a motherboard upgrade and more memory is what's needed here in the short term.

My friend plays BF3 on high settings with a Phenom II 940 BE @ stock settings with 4gb of DDR2 and 5770, we play on 64 man servers all the time without issue. He has all his settings at high, not sure what AF and the likes are set at. try turning down/off AF and see how it plays for a bit. His res is 1680x1050 so it is a smaller res.

Did you uninstall your old drivers and install new ones when putting the new video card in? I would run a driver cleaning program and install the latest derivers.

I seriously doubt you need an upgrade to play on 64 man servers.

the product key should work regardless of installation method (DVD, USB, network), however sometimes you need to call into Microsoft to have them activate it, often they ask "were there any hardware changes to the hard drive or motherboard" (used to happen with XP re-activations all the time)
