Internal HAF-X WC Loop + 3 GTX 680's

Thread Starter
Hey OCN,

I've decided I'm going to watercool my GPU's but I'm unsure as how many rads I need. I recently saw a build log that was cooling CPU, full motherboard waterblock and 3 GTX 580's using a single XSPC RX480 Radiator.

Now I'm using a HAF-X so a RX480 is impossible without modifications. But right now I'm using an XSPC RX360 & XSPC RX120 for my CPU loop. If I add in 3 GTX 680's to the equation is it possible to cool it just off those two radiators or will it get too hot.

Any information would be of great help smile.gif

Thank you

The 680s are approximately 200 watts each, so that's 600 right there, plus another 130 for the 3930k is 730 watts. The 360 and 120 you have would give you approximately 500 watts of cooling, so I'd say you probably need more than that to maintain a decent set of temperatures, and that's without overclocking. Having 3 cards in your loop requires a good deal of cooling.

The general rule is to have 120mm of rad space per component plus an extra 120mm for some headroom. But those components all throw off a lot of heat so I would also suggest adding some more rad space. You could get away with what you have now but you'd need some very high-power fans on your radiators to keep temps in check.

But are you open to some case modding? I fit a phobya xtreme 200mm rad in the front of my haf x with a little dremel work.

I've looked into the Phobya Xtreme 200mm radiator and it's almost impossible to find them in Australia and if I do come across one they're some ridiculous price. I was thinking of taking out the HDD Cages and putting in a 240mm rad down the bottom but I don't know if that would really get enough air flow.

I considered that as well but you'd have to seriously mod the bottom of your case if you wanted good airflow. An alternative that I saw was to cut a hole in the bottom of the 5.25" drive bays and mount a 240mm rad vertically like a guy did here. You'd avoid creating a dead zone of hot air, even if you are pushing some hot air into your system.

GTX680s don't really put out that much heat. I would be willing to bet that an RX360 and RX120 will pull it off.

Hmmmm I do like the look of that 240mm rad mod from mounting option BUT it would interfere with my Res/Pump combo. Will I need to grab a separate pump and res if I watercool my GPU's or will the XSPC Res/Pump combo be enough.

Which res/pump combo do you have? The D5 pump would be able to handle all your components but if you had the older model I'd look to add another pump to your loop. Even though all your blocks are pretty low in terms of restriction you still have a lot of them. A second pump would be peace of mind too, with as much money as you would have tied up in that loop.

Pump/Res Combo: X2O 750 Pump/Reservoir

I assume that's the old model.

The X2O is indeed the old model with a weak pump. It likely would not be able to drive all of the components you have there.

If you want to water cool all of that in a HAF-X, you're going to need to mount a rad externally. There's no way a 360+120 is going to cover that system.
