While I loved my Moto Droid (first gen) and its physical keyboard, there really isn't much of a difference with a touch-screen keyboard. The REAL issue is with the UI, which usually makes the keys incredibly hard to use - especially at speed and with large fingers.
If they can clean up the UI (well, just the keyboard UI), and get the predictive typing thing down (its still pretty bad), then sure, I'll get rid of a physical keyboard.
The other issue, however, is with the whole touchscreen setup. Right now, they aren't pixel accurate. The resolution of the touch-input is far lower than the screen - and there's lag. MS demoed some crazy low response time touchscreen tech a while back, and if they can implement that with a pixel-accurate input system, then yes, you've got a winner.
As for the actual rez thing - yes. More rez everywhere. There's never too much (Have you seen a 12mp 27"? They're insane).
