I can't really speak for MSI AMD boards, I've only used one once, but ran an 8150 at 6 - 7Ghz with MSI 990 FXA-GD80 & the board lived.
The MSI intel boards have been solid for me, I've killed a couple but it took some effort, it would not have been easy with air or water cooling.

Asrock has really stepped up, I was completely underwhelmed by the p67/z68 boards, the z77 showed good improvement, now z87 is looking up there with the best of them.
From meh to wow in a couple generations (straight up performance, not looking at price) is impressive. Evga has been trying & couldn't do that...
