Low CPU Score

Thread Starter
I have a Dell XPS 400 using an Intel Pentium D 930 @ 2993 Mhz and after testing it on 3DMark05 a short while back, I had a low CPU score of 4909. Shouldn't the Presler core line all receive over 5500? And there is no junk on my Dell, since I have reformatted and downloaded all the lastest drivers from Dell and nVidia. Could it be a motherboard driver problem because the latest Intel Chipset driver from Dell was from January of 2005?

Here are my specs:

Intel Pentium D 930 @ 2993 Mhz
2 X 1024 MB DDR2 533 Mhz RAM in DC
375 Watter Power Supply (Can't be powersupply fault because XPS 400 supports the power hungry ATI X1900 XTX)
nVidia 6800 Vanilla 256 MB @ 430/828
Intel 945G Motherboard (Speedstep disabled)
2 X 160 GB SATA II HDs in RAID 0

No, I don't think that's the case though. I've compared several computers with my 3DMark05 CPU score with computers that have the same specs as mine and are all manufactured from Dell. All of their CPU scores were above mine which were in the range of the 5400+.

Have you stopped all the trash programs from starting? Like, use MSCONFIG and deselect everything for startup items. That's just one of the little things you can do. You gotta tweek your OS to be as lean as possible.

You will get a much better score if you stop any needless processes or go into MSCONFIG and stop needless programs from starting up. Also disable and CPU using tasks such as your Firewalls or Anti-viruses and run it again. To improve windows check my Windows FAQS in my Sig.

Disabling certain services can help too.

Yep, I only have 20 processes when I startup using only about 140 MB of RAM.

Btw, I just downloaded the Microsoft Dual Core patch and it bumped my CPU score to 5447! So my highest 3DMark05 score now is 5116 but isn't 5447 still a tiny bit low? The Pentium D 820 gets about 5447 while the 940 gets 5820 from benchmarks I've seen.

Here's the link to the scores. http://service.futuremark.com/orb/pr...jectId=2319291

Thats a little better However make sure that theres no Apps running in the back ground such as Firewalls or such things.

There were absolutely no firewalls on and I even disabled the internet. Virus and spyware free also. Would an Intel Chipset update work for a Dell Motherboard thats 945G?

Yes indeed it would. Something you definately need to do.
