http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/03/12/crysis_3_video_card_performance_iq_review/11#.UUX4VVcXV2E
Quote:
Performance Summary

As expected, Crysis 3 is demanding on hardware, but that is ok. We want a game that pushes graphics forward on the PC and creates a need to build and buy faster GPUs. This game is quite intense at 2560x1600, with no single-GPU video card tested today able to play it at the highest in-game settings at 2560x1600. The GeForce GTX 680 and Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition were not able to give us that level of gameplay experience. This is good, this means we have room for next generation video cards to deliver to us a maximized experience at 2560x1600.

For now, it will take SLI or CrossFire to be able to play at 2560x1600 with very high settings and AA. If you wish to play Crysis 3 at 2560x1600 on a single-GPU, you will have to lower in-game settings. We found that you not only have to drop to high settings, but also lower shadows and post-processing to medium in the process.

Crysis 3 plays a lot better at 1080p resolution, 1920x1080. At 1080p the GeForce GTX 680 and Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition are able to push the graphics to very high and play with the best experience possible in the game. Granted, we have to use SMAA Medium in order to achieve this. It will most likely take next generation single-GPU video cards to allow us to play at SMAA High 4X at very high at 1080p. Still, if you have one of the best high-end cards right now, you can have a great 1080p experience in this game and get the most out of it visually.

The GeForce GTX 670 was also a good card at 1080p and the GeForce GTX 660 Ti impressed us with its performance. We thought the GTX 660 Ti would be bottlenecked, but it performed well. We were able to play at 1080p, with SMAA Medium, though we had to customize some settings by lowering these. What was really disappointing was the Radeon HD 7950 Boost and Radeon HD 7 870 GHz Edition performance. At 1080p we really had to lower in-game settings in order to get playable performance. It could be driver immaturity, but whatever it is, those video cards suffered the most.

Overall, if you want the best midrange video card performance, look toward the GeForce GTX 660 Ti or GTX 670 for this game at 1080p.

Hi guys, I've got this strange issue with my gtx 660ti pe oc. when i used a monitor that has a resolution of 1600x900 by vga cable, i've got minimum 30fps to a stable of 45fps in crysis 3(very high settings). BUT. when I used a 1920x1080p monitor via HDMI, I need to enable v-sync in crysis 3(also very high settings) since it was getting 60+ fps with 56~55 fps as minimum. Does any body have this experience? I mean, this is good, but im just kinda interested why in a higher resolution, the game's fps go higher. biggrin.gif

The card will only throttle if temps are too high (above 70) or draws more power than the Power Limit/Target.

"However, the thing to keep in mind is, the maximum Kepler Boost will only be active when the card is not too hot or drawing too much power. If the card gets too hot, then the Kepler Boost value will be throttled down below its true maximum in 13MHz increments. The first thermal throttle point is at 70C, then 80C, then 85C and lastly at 95C"

Long story short, rack up the Power Limit and keep temps below 70!
Higher Voltages definitely help, and it's safe to max it on softwares. Most preffer to flash a new bios to unlock even higher voltages, and more room to OC wink.gif

Interesting! This is probably because, the higher your resolution is, the more the GPU is used. Lowers resolutions hinders GPU potential.

However, it could be an engine glitch/limitation. Something similar also happens in Bulletstorm, it can only run well on 16:9 aspects since 16:10 capped performance.

Yes, its kinda refreshing, and kind of mystifying lol. And also I experience this not just in crysis 3 but in sleeping dogs too!

I just noticed something weird - I set my power limit to maximum which is 114% in my case but each time card goes to 100% or higher (happened only with full usage in far cry 3) it throttles down - is it an evga precision bug?

I noticed this too on my Galaxy card. The Xtreme Tuner Plus is really strange... first it set it to 125 max, then at random times it would set it below 100 without me touching it. So I brought it back up to max and now the max is 112 instead of 125 lol? Doesn't make any sense
