Than I overclocked my GPU to +50Mv and 1333 MHz KB clock 7000 memory

Checked again - 100% in some games, caused throttling.

I decreased voltage to +40Mv (so it's 1,175+0,040=1,215v) and declocked to 1320 MHz on core.

And checked again - none of my games goes over 95%.

And You know what happened? With Adaptive Vsync On - 70-90% GPU usage. With Adaptive vsync Off 80-99% depending on game.

My performance is well.... AWESOME. smile.gif

Thank You all for help smile.gif Especially Edkiefer - Your advices leaded me to this wink.gif
I just tried adaptive V-sync in FC3 , for first time and all seems good . I don't notice any input lag or downside so far .
before with V-sync off I was in the 60-80 fps range , and in some menus it would go to 1000 (coil wine ), so fixes that and temps are lower by 5 or so deg , with power down about 10% (low 80's ) .

So that can help if throttling a issue as long as no side affects .

One thing , I would always test with V-sync off first as this should load GPU the most to check stability of core clock , then you can always set it to what ever option in game or control panel .

Just ran a couple of Valley 1.0 Benchmarks and this is the best I could do...not too bad! biggrin.gif

MSI Afterburner 2.2.3

ALL Voltages= Maxed
Power Limit= Maxed
Core= +140

One thing pretty nice with AB is you can setup 2d and 3d profiles automatic .

This way say your running with over-volt values you can set a stock profile for 2d desktop use and have the higher clocks, voltages etc for 3d .

Seems to work pretty good so now card only stressed when needed , since voltage and memory clocks are affect all times of med to high usage ..

No reason to have high voltage or mem clocks while watching You-tube smile.gif

For unlocked BIOS (max voltage), would it help to set the power limit to 150% from 120% if I don't ever really see my card even hit 120% in GPU-Z? (when running Heaven Benchmarks). Heaven 4.0 doesn't like anything beyond 1260MHz core even at max voltage--I get a driver crash eventually. I've swapped to an Accelero Mono Plus, so my temperature never goes beyond 53C when benchmarking. Would the max core overclock be improved by setting the power limit to 150% or am I already maxed out on the core anyway?

Also noticed that using the voltage slider in Afterburner does nothing--always at 1.212V under load, even if I decrease the voltage to a negative offset.

Background: I did not use the ready-made unlocked BIOS--I edited my card's BIOS myself by raising the voltage and changing the fan range. Have not touched the power limit values.

Try other app to see which give you highest power % , I find while Heven and Valley (mainly Heven 4.0 ) might be harder on max clocks the power % is not highest for me .
Try various games you have , I think BF3 , Crysis 3 , Farcry3 far more demanding from what I understand .

If your not getting close to power limit , raising the limit slider won't do anything unless some game/app hits it . It just gives you more headroom .

Not sure on voltage control but your not going to see higher voltage than 1.212 , that is max AFAIK .

It's the max voltage, as I acknowledged--I'm just saying I can't REDUCE at load either--the power slider's not doing anything. I'll try other applications for the power limit.

right ,not sure -offset voltage values work in AB .
I don't even know if + offset works on other cards than MSI PE models .

Installing Accelero Mono Plus on a reference GTX 660 Ti (in my case by PNY)--some details of interest:

I got other heatsinks (copper) for the RAM chip than those that come with the Mono Plus (those are aluminum). Arctic Cooling wants us to use a permanent glue to attach various heatsinks to the card, but I opted for thermal tape in case of an RMA.

The original VRM heatsink that comes with the reference card is great, and I left mine on. It fits along the side of the Mono Plus heatsink and would not fit under Twin Turbo. Based on my temperatures (and those of other GTX 660 Ti / GTX 670 with Mono Plus who've shared their experiences), Accelero Mono Plus is the perfect heatsink to use for reference GTX 660 Ti / 670--because of the superior VRM cooling. It also has a quiet large 120mm cooling fan.

Here is how I originally attached the VRAM heatsinks:

PNY uses a 1.5mm thermal pad between the VRM heatsink and the VRMs. For reference, it is ~7cm x 1.7cm x 0.15cm

I was told EVGA cards use 0.5mm thermal pads.

When trying on the heatsink, I quickly discovered that it interferes with the two ramsinks that are next to the PCI-E plug. To make everything fit, I had to shift those two ramsinks a bit like this (half a mm away from the large die heatsink so they don't touch)

so they are getting cooled at least partially. When attaching the large heatsink, the bracket that's screwed onto it should be attached along the middle holes (you will know what I'm talking about when you look at it), and it will be bolted to the card through the holes I circled in red above. Also see this marked up diagram from the manual--the red dots are for GTX 660 Ti:

You will use the short spacers for this card. There is no backside bracket to use for GTX 660 Ti installation.

The heatsink, including the ends of the copper heatpipes, sticks out by just under 5cm from the edge of the PCB:

It takes up exactly 3 PCI-E slots in total height and sticks out ~5.1cm under the PCB.\

---

I also lapped and polished the base of the Mono Plus heatsink so it was nice and reflective. Using a tiny amount of Arctic Cooling MX-4 thinly and evenly spread across the die, I now have core temperature that does not exceed 53C at 1.212V at load running Heaven 4.0. Mid 50s in games. Very impressive, I must say! Next step is to get a 1-1.5mm thermal pad for the VRM heatsink to replace the stock one (probably a cut of 11W/mK Fujipoly Extreme).

thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

ETA: Backed down to 1.870V, since 1.212V wasn't giving a large difference on the core value, so I figured I'd be safer with lower voltage in the long run (not enough information about long-term durability running at max voltage). Here's a GPU-Z screenshot of temperature after playing a game for a couple hours + streaming a Netflix video on another monitor at the same time

I actually keep the 120mm Mono Plus fan at 100% at load because it's barely audible in my Fractal Design R4--it's super quiet! RPM range is not huge--it's 1470RPM or so at 100%. R4 is fairly good for cooling, but obviously is a case intended more for silence. I'd expect better temperatures with more open cases and perhaps a side panel fan.

Great review, thanks for the insight!

Now, if only it didn't take 3 slots... it could be useful on my SLI setup. Now there's nothing holding you back, make it run like a GTX 670 thumb.gif
post #1960 of 3662
I'd just like to chime in again, just upped my unigine valley score a few points, 75.7 FPS, 3169 score... beating another 670 SLI and 7970 CF rig biggrin.gif
I just threw my 3770k back in from my TC rig in place of my 2500k.

Can't wait to mess around with this 3770k again... It's a great chip... almost as great as my 2500k used to be before I used it in the TC rolleyes.gif
