never messed with SLI with AB but can you have separate fan profiles per card ?

If not what I would try is make custom fan profile that up to 60c is normal ramp slope but the next point make 70c very steep rate .
See if that doesn't keep both cards at low 60's

Just installed my second 660ti for SLI, and wanted to know if this is normal. I've been playing Metro: Last Light since it came with the second card, and while it is a very demanding game even at 1080p, I'm very impressed at how the cards handle the game. Locked at 60 FPS, Very High Quality, Very High Tesselation, normal motion blur, advanced PhysX, and SSAA set to off @ 1080p. The problem I'm having is with temps; under load, the top card is almost 20C warmer than the bottom card, maxing at 74C for the top card, and 56C for the bottom card with custom fan profile set in Afterburner. I feel like I have decent air flow in my Coolermaster Storm Trooper case, 3 x 120mm fans for intake with 1 blowing right in front of the cards, and 2 x 120mm and 1 x 140mm for exhaust. I appreciate any help and thank you!
Are those 2x MSI? If yes, then there's nothing you can do about that, these cards need space to cool down properly.
Which is why I often say that having at least one reference model (blower cooler) is recommended for SLI setups. Reference always below the first card/s.

And odd, can't your motheboard do x8/x8 in SLI?

Wouldn't you want the reference card in the first slot in that case?

It would blow in hot air from the card below.

Reference = Air from case -> Exhaust out of the case
Custom Cooling = Air from case -> Exhaust inside the case

Thanks for the help everyone. This is the answer I was afraid of. However, it's not like I've seen either card reach dangerous temps; like I said, the peak I've seen for the top card is 74C, and that's in Metro: Last Light with all of the eye candy (except SSAA) @ 1080p with an aggressive fan profile set to 80% fan at 70C, and 100% at 80C. What concerned me is temperature difference between the top and bottom card which is 20C at peak load. When the top card reached 74C, the bottom card was only at 56C.

The SLI modes for my motherboard are (with the respective slots filled) PCI-e 3.0 x16, x8/x8, and x8/x4/x4.

doesn't matter to me about air in or out of case.
it's better to put the better performing GPU in slot 1, period..

I want the performance over the heat issue, you can always add fans.

Too bad only 2.0 GPU Boost allows adjustments on temperature cap, before the GPU decides to slow down :/
