YW! LOL Yeah I know what you mean....I had uninstalled their app sometime last year but they had some good sales recently so I just installed the app, got the code and activated on steam.

My next item for purchase is an SSD and I had been advised to get the OCZ Vertex which is where I'm leaning towards, anybody have any other recommendations and what are the differences you's have noticed compared to a generic HDD? especially at gaming.

Well the OCZ vertex is what i have seen the fastest SSD now, it will load your games much faster and it will boot your system in about 10-15 seconds and can do anything u want biggrin.gif

I have OCZ agility 3 and when mine broke down i could go back to the store and they did not even ask what was wrong but i got an new one, so their guarantee is pretty good.

Second i like the vertex more than my agility 3 because it is little faster and in my opinion looks better biggrin.gif

Well I checked the site of my local computer markets and they sell the OCZ Vertex 4 256GB for $270 I think, I still need a HDD though, do you know anything about WD Velociraptors?

Yes they are pretty fast as well and if you can buy 2 of them and put them in raid 0 u have almost the same performance as one SSD i think.

A friend of mine has 2 raptors in raid 0 and it boots even as fast than my SSD if not faster, also loading games is much faster applications running much smoother everything becomes a lot better.

I do want to point out that raid 0 is not entirely save tho because when it crashes all your data is gone and u do not have that problem with SSD.

If you want high performance i suggest to get one SSD or maybe 2 raptors in raid 0 but with the danger that it can be tricky to setup and it is not entirely save.

It's a bit of considering, I want to put ALL my games on a single SSD but I don't think 256GB will be enough. That's why I'm considering the raptor, maybe I'll just save up and buy the 512GB, it's just fairly expensive right now, $1/GB were the prices of HDD's way back in like 2004 from memory. I think a small raptor for all of my Uni work and a large SSD for games.

I run all my games off WD VelociRaptors, 600GB SATA 6, 10K speedsters.
the Veloci 600GB is faster than the WD Caviar Black 2GB.

there is also 'white label' Veloci's too that might save you some money of you go that route.

I know about the problem with Raid 0 and personally I would rather use the SSD, $152 right now for the 500GB Velociraptor, more than enough for me... just wish those SSD's didn't cost so much.

$152 is about the going retail price but look here:
http://www.goharddrive.com/Default.asp

also all you need is like a 64-90GB SSD for your OS and the rest including TEMP and TMP files can also be diverted to the HDD
as the SSD can be set to only run OS.

this idea doesn't cost that much..

I think I'll get one first and then an SSD later on... just need to transfer my license to my new motherboard, not paying for an OEM copy... they're already making enough money and it's still the same computer (sort of).
