Hey guys, so I bought a z77 extreme 9 mobo and an intel i5 3570k with my beautiful 660 Ti. I want to creep into the overclocking and see what I can do, but I didn't buy anything to help keep my rig cool. Any suggestions? I prefer air cooled vs water cooled but how much heat are we needing to dissipate? Thanks for the help!

It had been more than a year since I've played zombies on PS3 and I have to say I don't think I can ever go back to FPS games on a console, (even with auto aim enabled) the precision that a mouse and keyboard offer are just eons ahead of a controller IMHO.
It's faster, more precise and just plain more comfortable. Or maybe it's just because I've gotten so used to it. biggrin.gif

Wow, I basically just said I prefer a mouse and keyboard over console controllers. I didn't think I would ever see the day when I would say that.
tongue.gif If I told myself that 2 years ago I would have said wth.gif you're kookoo.gif

I'm still getting used to them but when I loaded up BF3 for the first time on PC, I was shocked at how precise and quick my aim was, only thing is getting used to sprint and crouch with a keyboard.

E3 was interesting, glad Sony stuck it to MS, being able to play games freely on console is the main thing I see it has over PC and MS have screwed that one up badly. Hopefully as my friend who's a console gamer and is getting a PS4 was saying, developers make games on PC and give us all the AA, detail, physics etc... and bring it down to PS4 since it's easier to develop for, that way everyone's happy.

Only issue is if they go the other way around and code the games around the weakest link (XB1) and port them up to the PS4 and then PC. XB1 costing more you'd think they'd add those funds to improve specs, instead decide to pack in gimmicks... wonderful.

You may have done this and you might already know but if you haven't then you should download MSI Afterburner to keep and eye on GPU temps, this is also the most widely used overclocking software. You also need to keep an eye on CPU temps so download HWiNFO64 and keep your eye on the core temps not the CPU temp because that will be less.

For the 660Ti, make sure it doesn't go over 70 degrees otherwise it'll downclock. If that's an issue then you need better cooling in the case, basics for that, intake in the front and sides, exhaust at the back and top. You need to check the safe running temperatures for your CPU and you should check out some reviews of air and water coolers, I'm personally watercooling with a H80i and I don't like my temps but I think that's because my motherboard OC and puts my voltage higher than it should.

Hope that helps, as far as overclocking goes, hopefully someone with expert advice can help you as I'm still learning the basics.

That is great! I worry about burning a whole through my motherboard or really just damaging things so keeping an eye on temp is a great idea. I will be keeping tabs on that and bumping up my overclocks. Let's see what I can do.

HWiNFO64 will also give you temps for your motherboard, make sure you have it open when gaming to see the max temps afterwards, this will let you know whether you need to adjust. When you're satisfied then you can game freely knowing that everything is running just fine.

That motherboard seems pretty cool, make sure you download CPU-Z and check memory, this is something that I didn't do. Since you have 1866Mhz it should read 933 and if it's set to auto you have to change the profile to XMP in the BIOS. Make sure you have those temps alright first though. By the way, I have 1600Mhz for my RAM and before the BIOS fix it was running at 1333Mhz max, I think yours might be doing the same.

You can also use MSI AB and HWiNFO combined to give you CPU and GPU temps in the corner of your screen when gaming, I do it all the time. For MSI AB just go to settings and tick Show in on-screen display in the monitoring tab, getting it to work with HWiFNO64 to show CPU temps is tricky, I can link you a guide on YouTube for it if you want.

Only took about 10s to find http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=folyv5Io-NM trust me, keep an eye on it until you know the temps are stable, I hit 90 degrees in a minute with a stock box Intel cooler and if it went higher it would have shutdown automatically to protect itself from damage.

So it will shut down by itself? That's great! I went into the bios and there were what looked like presets for both countries and gpu. I increased gpu by 100 mgz and the country by. 6 ghz and when I checked cpuid and gpu clock speeds, my gpu increased successfully but my country did not. Ill keeping playing with it when get home today. This is so freaking awesome

Hey guys,

I wonder if any of you having troubles with the 320.18 driver from Nvidia.

I discovered that it freezes my PC all the time and i went back to 314.22 driver.

If so look at the Nvidia thread:

That's weird I found the exact opposite for some reason.
My rig would flash my desktop on the only screen connected to my internal graphics twice and then not display anything at all. Basically Nvidia drivers would fail, but I have no way of knowing for sure because my monitors would display nothing for 10 minutes and I would have to reset. :/

Honestly I think that is what screwed my system up in the first place when steam would freeze my computer every time without hesitation.
I had 320.18 Drivers installed, read something about the driver screwing computers up & without really looking into what was said about them, I rolled back my drivers to 314.22 and things started to go down hill from there.

Express install guys? Or did you install the nvidia experience custom? Do an install with Afterburner or Precision etc. running?

SteZHD what driver you on? Can you weigh in. I have been watching this drama bomb explode for the past day and it is almost always some for of bad install procedure.
