Can my PSU handle the GTX 480? - Page 2

Not underpowered at all. I ran two 480's in SLI, both overclocked, with an overclocked 2500k, all on 850w and have heard of it done on 750w. You are more than fine. thumb.gif

Note, my power hungry build. On a 750 @ 4.2Ghz CPU

From another thread, that PSU is based on a Seasonic S2II- so yeah. It will work flawlessly.

I would think 520watts for a GTX480 would be pushing it slightly with your setup.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020 I highly recommend upgrading to that. Corsair power supplies are great and that one will power your setup, plus a gtx 480 and any overclocking you may do easily.

Why would the OP need a 650w unit when a 2500K will push 100w and a GTX480 OC'd on air will be at 250w? Rest of the system will pull 50w.

Honestly, his current psu is enough.

I'm running a gtx 480 at 960Mhz core with 1.25v and a 3960x @4.7Ghz 1.4v. This is alot of wattage I'm pulling here and my Corsair 650w isn't stressing at all. SB-E 6 cores are power hogs and can easily push 200w and more imo. A 2500k takes next to no power to run, so it's an easy call here.

An overclocked 2500K like the OPs uses more then 100 watts. And the GTX480's TDP stock is 250 watts, so any overclocking is likely to push that up. The 520 may power the system fine, but lets just say, I prefer to be on the safe side.

It's a quality unit which can deliver its rated wattage constantly, as said above, based on a Seasonic design. Maybe if the quality were crap yeah, I'd worry- but it'll be fine. Probably one of the same designs that Corsair has used in their less expensive (and still $$) models. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, Seasonic is great. My HX650W is based on a Seasonic design and it works great. I am likely going to upgrade to the AX750 though, just for extra headroom. Plus the newer and extra features it has (80Plus Gold, Fully Modular etc.) thumb.gif

You should really enjoy that AX750. I almost bought that PSU myself, but the Seasonic was on sale for $119 at the time, and it was a steal. Same PSU- so I don't feel I got ripped at all. The (A)X750 PSUs are really awesome. Super quiet as well. Not to mention, beasts as long as you don't have an insanely over the top rig.
