Upgrading my case/h100 fans

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

I've recently built a new desk, and placed my PC on top of it, to my right. My fans are now driving me nuts, even all at lowest speeds. I've got a CM Storm Sniper case, a Corsair H100 up top in push config (with it's stock fans that I never got around to replacing). 1 scythe fan for rear exhaust and 1 stock CM fan for bottom intake. I want to replace those 4 fans with these Noctua fans.. The p12 for exhaust, the f12's for the h100, and the p14 for bottom intake. My main goal is less sound for idle/web browsing time, I'd like to keep equal or get better temps in the process. I've got 2 stock CM 200mm blue LED fans in the side and front panel, that, on low, are nice and quiet and do not pose an issue. What do you guys think about this?

Can you guys elaborate on why? From what I can tell in comparison: the Corsairs are a few dollars cheaper, look very nice. But have more noise and push less air than the Noctua's. What makes you absolutely recommend the Corsair fans?

I would go with the Noctuas over the Corsairs. They support PWM so they can be silent while web browsing and ramp up during gaming or other processor intensive tasks. The only reasons to go with the Corsairs over the Noctuas is price and looks.

What website are you buying from ?

I'd recommend you to check Cougar fans, they make PWM models.

I am primarily looking on Amazon, so I can take advantage of my Prime membership with free/fast shipping. I'll take a look at the Cougars as well, thanks for the suggestion.

If you YouTube search the Corsair quiet edition fans, you'll find them extremely silent. Even at 12 volts, they'll sound the same as when they were off. Also, fans are going to be loud unless they're at extremely low RPM or if the fan grille isn't removed. Also, PWM fans are nice to have, but unless you have that many 4 pins on your motherboard/fan controller, then there is really no point in getting PWM since you won't take advantage of them.

There are PWM splitters out there. I am using the Gelid 4 to 1 PWM splitter and all my case fans run off PWM now. Everyone has different noise tolerances, personally I find that even 1200-1500 rpm fans are audible compared to even lower RPMs. Even if there is virtually no motor noise, the wind noise from a fan that moves a good amount of air would be noticeable. With PWM you can get the best of both worlds silence and performance. From the comparisons I've seen, including the overclock3d youtube video, the Noctuas do perform slightly better but cost more.
