Intermittent Idle freeze

What would cause an intermittent idle windows freeze? I hasten to even call it that but this morning happened for the second time in two weeks. I have not changed any setting of my overclock recently, been the same for three months. The only recent hardware change is adding my second gpu, hd7870 crossfire. I can play games like bf3 multiplayer all day and night with out a glitch. It just freezes up whilst surfing for example. My rig is in my sig.

Thanks

I'm assuming you're using something like firefox, go in and disable hardware enabled graphics. Your xfire could be causing an issue with it.

No not firefox just ie. I cant use firefox for some reason at the moment. when I click it it opens ie, but not 64bit ie because I can run battle log in it, whereas from the metro desktop battle log wont run because 64 bit. I have just completed your suggestion and checked the box , use software acceleration not gpu? thanks

Have you tried taking out one of the cards (or disabling crossfire) and seeing if your problem still persists?
