Help finding a monitor for video editing and gaming under $250

I will be using the monitor mainly for video editing and some gaming and for that purpose I was wondering what monitor would make sense for me to consider for that and if you guys have any direction to guide me in, for a monitor under $250?

Monitor size 22-24" should so.

I heard good things about the Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM 23 inch,, anyone here have any experience with this model? (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Ultrasharp-U2312HM-inch-Monitor/dp/B005MHMFJA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346840627&sr=8-1)

its a great IPS monitor for gaming as it has one of the lowest latencies/response time for IPS monitors (correct me if I'm wrong...but I'm pretty sure that I'm right smile.gif

You won't go wrong with it wink.gif
Just a thing to note is that it isn't really an 8 bit monitor but more of a 6 bit + "fake 2 bit" added on by Dell.....and that the matte coating is quite thick compared to other monitors so on pure white backgrounds you might find it very "sparkly"

but other than that its a good choice thumb.gif

Dell's IPS U series is definitely your best bet here.

Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM is solid choice. Other good choice would be Dell Ultrasharp U2412M, if you want 16:10 as those extra pixels will come in handy when editing video. 2412M also has one of the lowest if not the lowest input laf off all the IPS displays, which is good for games.

Amazon UK is weird with 2412M costing 250 pounds and 2312HM just 150, here it's only 50 euro (250 vs 200) as it should be. So if you can find it for a good price, go fir it, else get 2312HM one.

Thanks guys! I might just consider spending a bit extra and getting this monitor rather than a cheaper one, though that was my preferred (to spend less, as I am always the absolute optimist) tongue.gif

I just found out that this screen is only 60Hz, while this would be sufficient and acceptable for video editing it does seem a bit on the low side for a smooth gaming experience though. Am I wrong in assuming that? And what would you recommend here? Another monitor perhaps?

I am quite nitpicky yes tongue.gif

I hear that the monitor also produces a fair bit of ghosting, anyone here had any experience with that?

Its quite good for gaming. IMHO 60hz is more than enough for just gaming. Then again some people argue that its not enough and that 120hz is way smoother. But then again....thats subjective.

I've heard that too....but for most people its fine. (That being said I don't have one of the U series monitors myself so I can't personally comment)

And please use the edit button (pencil icon next to red flag on the bottom left of your post) instead of making multiple posts thumb.gif

Could. Go with the new asus vg23ah and overclock it to 72 or 75 hz. It's like 250 to 260. I do not know of any 120hz screen that would be in the 250 range that would have good color reproduction.

This is a rare case where I'd recommend you go over budget... The Catleaps were $300 but rose in price t o $350-380. IPS 27 inch 2560 x 1440, lowest lag ever for IPS. Or, I'd recommend a 1080p 120hz monitor if it's available at that price point?
