1. the top left corner of the backplate needs to be snipped off a little
2. low profile rams are recommended.

That is a sexy heatsink.

i got this annoying PSU coil whine, it started when i upgraded my GPU from gtx 560 to gtx 580, i doubt that my PSU can't handle the GPU, i think it's the "right combination" of hardwares that produces coil whine.

Is it constant? I only get 1 second at most of coil whine when loading up gta4 as I said. But I cannot be sure if it's coming from the GPU or PSU. Money is on the PSU under some crazy specific load on the system that is only given when loading gta4.

Not really sure, but it's not a prob for me.

yup, it's constant, but the loudness and tone varies depending on the load, when gaming the sound is low pitch "buzz" and it's not really that loud, but when benchmarking and folding the sound is louder and high pitched.

frown.gif That is not good, and it is pretty hard to tell were it is coming from in a computer so small.

i'm 100% sure it's the PSU, i have this automotive stethoscope that you can pinpoint where the sound is coming from.

don't know if i should be worried or not, some says coil whine is not really a bad thing, it's just annoying, some says otherwise though

From what I understand, it's nothing to be concerned about, its just an annoyance for people.

One of my tv's has the worst coil whine ever and it works. I just have to unplug it when not using it because it only happens when the tv is turned off. I am talking keep you up at night and give you headaches loud LOL

yup, it's really annoying specially when i'm folding with the GPU, the high pitched whine seems to linger even after it's done whining, i mean my ear is still ringing even if the actual whining sound is gone.

good thing it's not that bad when i'm just gaming.

I get my worst coil whine experience with my last gigabyte gtx580 soc, for some reason that gpu dislike my mobo (asrock z77 extreme-4, asus maximus gene-z), my psu (superflower golden king 550w), or whatever the reason is. It's not that bad at idle, but it's unbearable at full load mad.gif

..

Anyway, ready to pull the trigger, need some suggestion or confirmation if it'll work smile.gif
  • MOBO : asrock z77e-itx (ofc. planning to sell my extreme4)
  • PROC : 3770k (already have it)
  • RAM : need something high speed, black, and preferably low profile? any suggestion that will work with the mobo?
  • PSU : Super Flower Golden King 550w (on process for RMA)
  • HSF : still looking...
  • SSD + HDD : thinking about vertex 4 (still looking for better alternatives) + wdc green 1,5tb for data (already have it)
  • GPU : Not really a hardcore game, but I need something sufficient for casual gaming and not power hungry because I rarely shutdown my PC.
  • CASE : still thinking about Prodigy, but it's a little too big for me, might even go m-atx for this kind of size...and I don't like silverstone styling rolleyes.gif
