I can also comment that my samsung greens can easily hit 2400 on other... cheaper boards.

I have tested every stable / beta bios so far available from asrock.

I have a odd idea that this problem is also related to ivy bridge with this board.

Will post back with results using older gen chip.

Thanks.

Looks like Swiftech Apogee brackets don't quite reach the msata which is great news for me. At least the 1366 one doesn't and it is a little bigger than the 1155/1156 one presently installed on my P55 FTW.

And I think we all know I meant 3570 above.

So I googled ASRock Z77E ITX and I found this awesome thread. I have some parts on the way.

Sugo SG05BB Case 450w
2500k Sandy Bridge
8gb of the Samsung Greens
Momentus XT v2 500gb
Logisys 100mm cooler
EVGA GTX460 from current desktop with semi-bad RAM

I know the cooler is cheap but it is compact and seems really well built. If I get over 4.0 I will be happy. One reviewer says it has his 2500k running 4.2. The main reason I got the Sandy was for lower temps. I will check how my Samsung RAM does with the older chip too. I'm not experienced with 1155 overclocking yet as I have been on a Q6600 for years.

I would say throw a clc watercooler in that bad boy and reap the benefits. I have the same case and I am using a thermaltake water 2.0 performer with ~70c load @ 4.7ghz on a 3570k. Good idea getting a laptop drive, desktop drive will be very hard to fit, I am going to order a wd black 750gb 7200rpm hdd tomorrow because I am running out of room. Then if I run out of room again, throw a external drive on my computer.

I'm sure you'll hit 4GHz without issue, people always forget air cooling isn't that bad and highly comparable to the sub £250 water cooling setups. I used to have a Q6600 at 4.2GHz on air and seem to recall even having it at 3.8Ghz without fans. I've had my 2500k up to 4.7GHz, but running at 4.2GHz now for daily use. If you want a speed boost without a doubt the best thing you could do is get a fully fledged SSD, but money is always an issue at some level. Anyway good luck and let us know how you get on.

well the momentus xt offers near SSD performance due to its onboard SSD caching.

I quite like SSD caching with a 64gb or larger drive as you get the full benefits of an SSD and a large hard drive with smart allocation for frequently used stuff
