Korean 2560x1440 advice

Hi guys,

Spent the last few days researching these monitors and now I'm deeply considering buying one when I get some more money in. Only problem is, I don't know which one to go for but I'm edging towards a Crossover due to it's metal casing and smart look.

One thing I'm worried about is the height of these monitors because they need to fit between the top of my desk and the bottom of the printer shelf, it's about a 46cm gap. If anyone could tell me the heights of a few different monitors (including stand) that would be a great help.

I'm also a little worried my computer might not be able to give me a good enough frame rate in games at that resolution.

Here's my specs:

  • AMD Athlon II X4 2.9GHz
  • Asus M4N72-E Motherboard
  • 8GB DDR2 RAM
  • ATI HD 5850

Also, does anyone know how much customs charges might be to the UK and any way of reducing them?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Went for a Crossover myself, we know the panels are all basically the same LG one, we know all the stands are "okay", so I went with one that I liked the look of - very happy with it.

Height wise - my previous screen was a Dell 2005FPW which sat higher up from the desk - as I'm upstairs in a bungalow I have height limitations too as the ceiling is at an angle (being the underside of a roof); I've not measured it specifically but the new screen's no higher:

I'll try and remember to measure tonight if I get a chance.

I have an E8400 CPU driving an AMD 6870 myself, which has been smooth enough for my usage (a bit of WoW, a bit of Word of Tanks - admittedly neither needs mega high FPS). What I would note though is that the GPU does a perfectly good job of sending the screen a usable signal if you run at a lower resolution, still full screen, just with the usual slight fuzziness for running an LCD at the 'wrong' resolution for it; worst case you could always dial back to 1280x720 and get great FPS at the cost of "big pixels" (as each actual pixel would be displayed by exactly four on the monitor).

Crossover LED-P! Tilt, rotate, and adjust up and down stand...plus all metal design. Love it.

Measurement -> it's about 44.5cm from desktop to the top of the casing.

Would you guys happen to know what the input lag is like on these KR monitors?

Very little - since theres only one input (dual link DVI-D) and no scalers the input lag is almost as good, even on par with CRTs. I dont have a source so youll have to dig it up - but yes afaik Korean monitors with 1 input have the least amount of input lag vs other LCD displays.

Thanks for that. Looks like the Crossover will fit. Was this measurement from the standard or pivot stand model? Are they any different hieght wise?

Mine's got the basic ordinary stand - it's the one accessorieswhole on ebay describes as "★CROSSOVER★ 27Q LED High-Resolution 2560x1440 QHD DVI-D Dual S-IPS 27" Monitor".

Input lag, as jerrolds says, is negligible.
