23 inch IPS or 120Hz? - Page 2

Thread Starter
Yeah, I was fully intending to upgrade my GPU if I were to go 120 Hz, definitely getting a GTX780 when it comes out.

The Samsung monitor looks nice, but it's a bit out of my price range, the LG IPS monitor I'm looking at goes for 190 EUR while that Samsung goes for about 400 EUR at the cheapest. Considering that I want 2 new monitors that's not what I was looking for.

Anything in the sub-250 category worth taking a look at?

One other possibility I just thought up would be to get 2 IPS monitors now and just add another one in the middle if manufacturers finally start releasing 120 Hz IPS models.

IMO only a 2560 x 1440 IPS competes with a good 120hz monitor. So I'd go with the 120hz. Although, the 2560 x 1440 costs about the same.

you could get the Asus VG23AH for 250 (us) on the nose from newegg atm. Not sure how that translates in Euros , sorry. It is Semi-Glossy 23 inch eIPs. It can be overclocked to 75hz . That could be a good compromise.

I'd still go with 120hz or full blown 1440p. With that you lose 4 inches of real estate, and eIPS is not really like an IPS. At that price range it's more like a TN with better viewing angles.

For $50 more you get a real 120hz or 1440p IPS.

I think thats the real debate lol. 120hz OR 1440p korean. I went 120hz because I was just too nervous about reliability of those korean monitors. I plan on eventually going 1440p but not too soon.

IMO the scare of Korean monitors is way overblown. Samsung is from Korea.

I was just giving him another option. Saying eIPS is just a tn panel with better viewing angles is flat wrong though.
