Care to help a first time overclocker? - 3570K - Page 2

Give 10-20 min to check out this guide - http://www.overclock.net/t/1198504/complete-overclocking-guide-sandy-bridge-ivy-bridge-asrock-edition

this guide helped me understand everything i see and need to change in the bios when overclocking the 3570k.
After reading this guide in details i feel very confident when i get to change values in the bios.
In my case... I have got my 3570k overclocked to 4.3ghz at Stock voltages, I literly havent touched them and I've tested my CPU via prime95 and it is pretty stable at this point.

When you get up and running again (and I'm sure you will, no worries), I'd recommend just typing "42" in the multiplier field and not touch anything else. MSI's bios should be able to handle that with voltage and so forth on Auto. probably could go even higher-ish but i'd start low.

Ive tried everything I can, nothingg worked.

Okay guys, after not achieving anything the last couple days I decided to try again today.
I took out the battery and tried booting without it., didn't work. I put the battery back in and tried booting again, still nothing.
Pulled out the battery again, switched ram sticks from slot 1 & 3 to 2 & 4, still nothing. Put battery back, nothing. Hit the clear CMOS button and it worked!
I don't know how I did it but I managed to fix it. I'm now able to get into the bios again, and boot into windows.

Not sure if I want to continue with overclocking.

Is there an official thread for your MSI mobo, might be worth looking at if there is one. May want to look into new BIOS for your board. Go to the MSI website and see if they've released a new one, see what its changed. May help with Overclocking and overall system stability.

I have tried to update the bios to the lastest one, but it doesn't actually update.
My current version is 2.0, latest version is 2.5. I downloaded the latest version, installed it but it still says I'm running 2.0.

Glad to hear you are back up and running. Dont worry too much about the botched OC attempt, we've all been there. Just do your research before you try anything freaky. Overclocking is risky by its very nature but with the proper education, research, information and support (OCN Community) I'm sure you'll do fine.thumb.gif
