This wire. specool.gif or thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif? Trying to find speaker wire for my new speakers and receiver. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wire is wire. As long as it is copper it's all pretty much the same. I used 14 ga for my home theater and i think it worked great. 50 feet might not be enough though if you are doing 5.1 or 7.1. I used every inch of a 100 foot roll doing my small apartment with a 7.1 setup. I recently moved to another larger house and set up the system again and used an additional 100 feet after scavenging most of the wire from my old setup as well.

The speakers are less than 7 feet from the receiver so I wouldn't be using more than 15 feet for both speakers. So I guess it's safe to say that I should get the wire linked and hold on to the rest for when I move into a bigger room and create a 5.1 system?

If you only need like 15 feet you might just look into using lamp cord instead of speaker wire. It is heavier gauge and dirt cheap at hardware stores. You do have to be careful about keeping the polarity straight since the wires will often look the same with lamp cord.

Monster cables vs. coat hanger.

In that case, how will I be able to tell the difference?

I think you would just have to carefully run your fingers the length of the cord and keep track which wire you want to be + and - (red/black)

Since I work at Home Depot, I'll check into that tomorrow when I go in after school. Thanks!

Use speaker wire and terminate it correctly with spades or bananas. Otherwise, you'll run into problems with oxidation down the line.

You can usually find lamp cord that is textured on one wire, or one with a tinned/aluminum wire + copper wire, so you can tell the difference. I got a roll at my local restore store for like 5 bucks. I used it in my truck and my home 5.1 setup. Some people will tell you that you need fancy wires for speakers, but they are full of ****. There is a famous test, were audiofiles rated a clothes hanger over expensive wire in a blind test. The connection and gauge is what matters. You also need a larger stranded cable verse a solid wire.

Personally I ordered 2 reels of this

I don't need that much but the amount I change my room around I will come in handy down the road.

Also $11 for 100FT of 18AWG is just nice
