Alright so I believe I will be pulling the trigger on a new gpu within the next 2 weeks. Since I started this thread, I have gone back and forth but eventually settled with going red. However, I can't find any reference cards with 2 dvi ports and 1 hdmi. However, there are quite a few reference 670s and 680s with those options. I am really hoping to run 3 monitors of different resolutions, yet I will only be gaming on one (1080 settings). I want a reference because I will be watercooling soon after my gpu upgrade. Will a 2gb nvidia solution be enough? As I've already stated, I have no plans to upgrade from 1080p as far as gaming goes. My other monitors are 1280x1024 and 1680x1050, and I will use them to browse the web during gameplay and to run hardware monitoring programs; no 3D or anything extensive.

I really like the sapphire vapor x 79xx cards but I think my desire for watercooling outweighs my desire for an AMD card.

Sapphire HD 7970 OC uses a reference HD 7970 PCB. so any ref HD 7970 compatible waterblock will work fine.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1196856/official-amd-radeon-hd-7950-7970-owners-thread/12540#post_17567847

the card has 7 power phases (5 GPU + 2 memory) while the ref HD 7970 has (5 + 1) . you can see the extra power phase missing in the ref HD 7970 card in the above post.

That card only has 1 dvi port. It looks like I just may have to get a (mini) displayport-to-dvi adapter. Anyone have any advice on which ones work?

if you plan on gaming with 3 different monitor resolutions, you will need SoftTH
Its free but only supports Directx9 so some new games will have problems
http://www.kegetys.fi/SoftTH/

My HD6850 is currently running games at this resolution:

LEFT: 1024x768 15 inch LG
CENTER: 1600x900 20 inch DELL
RIGHT: 1024x768 15 inch LG

Games Ive tested:
Left 4 Dead
Dirt 3
Blades of Time
Hunted Demons Forge
Crysis 2
NBA2k12

Games that wont run:
Dirt Showdown (wont start because its DX11)
Race Driver Grid (keeps crashing)
Adobe Workhorse
