My first overclocking attempts - Page 4

I have dropped the HTT and the NB to 2400 after reading that they do best at a multiple of the RAM, which is at 800. They are both now at stock voltages. There is no benifit to having the HTT at 2400 instead of 2000? Heat is not a problem, but if there is no gain I will put it back to 2000. The CPU runs great on 4 cores at 4 Ghz @ 1.475v. I think that is where it should stay. Until I use software that will max out all 4 cores @ 4Ghz, I don't see the reason to enable the other two. But it is nice to know they are there and willing to run. Time for the Gfx. wink.gif

Leave HTT clock alone. It should not be run more than 10% outside stock speed. 1800-2200, anything else causes instabilites and performance loss. This is a proven fact.

As far as NB, overclock that. 2600+ is golden, but if you can muster 3000, that is the generally accepted "sweet spot".

Is that 10% @ 2200 of any value? Or not?
At what voltage is 3000 on the NB generally running?

Thanks for your help!.

HTT is very touchy. There is nothing to be gained from overclocking it, even if you two GPUs you can downclock it and still not lose performance. (This is counting the HTT additive latency, not the bus' raw throughput).

Leave it at 2000, it's most happy there. Only reason I run mine at 2100 is because of the FSB straps. Next step down for me is 1800.

CPUNB voltage is generally 1.30-1.35 for the best result, it doesn't scale too well past that, and it adds a ton of heat to your chip.

1.3v is in the yellow zone of my MB, and runs the NB at 3000 no problem, but 1.225v runs 2600 and is in the green zone, so that is where it stays. No throttling of the FSB from the VRM's either.
So now I am at 4Ghz on 6 cores @ 1.475v, 2000Mhz HTT @ 1.2v (Stock), 2600Mhz NB @ 1.225v and RAM at 1600Mhz with 9 timings @ 1.5v (Stock).
Temps are fine. Never above 52 on the CPU socket, and never above 39 for the MB. But it's getting cooler outside. I want to leave some room on the temps for the return of summer.
Any further comments or suggestions, or is where I am at now about where I should stay for a 24/7 OC.?
I could probably drop some slight voltage somewhere, but I will check that out after I am settled.

Thanks again for your help m8.

The colors the board says mean nothing. If you can run it and keep it cool, it's worth it. Especialy the NB.

CPU-NB can handle up-to 1.5v, it just doesn't help that much after 1.3v.

The board just has those colors in the setup because it has to assume that you're using not-so-good cooling. If you can cool it, those "voltage colors" can be safely ignored, as long as you know what the maximums are for your particular piece of hardware.
